Didn't Queen sing a song about bottom-heavy chicks called "Fat Bottom Girls"? [Edited 1/20/09 16:21pm] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

And it should also be noted that working out for more than an hour during an individual session is generally not recommended for the average person (i.e., not a competetive body-builder or athlete).... Really? I do around two hours, four days a week. I've heard this a lot, and read it in a book on fitness that I own called "The Body Sculpting Bible for Men", by James Villepigue and Hugo Rivera (both are ISSA certified personal trainers). According to them in a section of the book called Common Myths Debunked: MYTH #1: In order to gain muscle and lose fat you need to exercise for hours every day.
This myth couldn't be further from the truth. The truth of the matter is that after one hour of intense weight training your levels of testosterone (the hormone that promotes increased muscle mass and reduces fat) levels drop. Because of this if you continue to train past an hour, your levels of cortisol (the hormone that destroys muscle and promotes the storage of body fat) rise, while your testosterone drops even further. This leaves you in a chemical state that encourages body fat accumulation and loss of muscle... They go on to say in both guides that they've written (men's and women's) under the section titled Characteristics of a Good Weight-training Program that: Sessions should be short: 60 minutes MAXIMUM. The max amount of time a weight training session should last is 60 minutes. After 60 minutes the levels of muscle building and fat burning hormones (like growth hormone and testosterone) begin to drop. In additon, the glycogen (stored carbs) in your system, which is the fuel you muscles use to contract, is depleted. If you weight train more than 60 minutes you will actually be wasting your time since you will no longer have the hormones or the fuel necessary to produce muscle growth. Continue to train past 60 minutes and you will get impaired recover, which leads to overtraining, a condition where you body does not recover from its weight training sessions. This leads to loss of strength and muscle mass.[/
I know that this is a lot to read, and it doesn't take into account folks like you (my hero, incidentally... ) who have been at it for a while...but for someone trying to either start an exercise program, or get back into one, IMHO its a good guide to start off with..... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

I too am battling this Demon called a layer of fat on my body that seems to control me. I'm getting ready to take an exacto to it. I'll start with the treadmill everyday and then see what happens.

Once I stopped that which took bout 15 lbs off in a month. I'll have a couple of saltine crackers when I get the urge.
Works for me. Also the major hurdle is to change your lifestyle and the role food plays in it. Cause its NOT a diet, its a way of life. [Edited 1/19/09 22:39pm] I'm doing that right now, just sipping some cool water instead of eating They make something to put in your water to keep you full if you can't take plain water. It's by South Beach.....not sure if they have it over there though. I tried it before....and it actually helped. It's almost like Crystal Light, but has protein and other nutrients in it. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)
