Ex-Moderator | skin help Anyone have any miracle anything you use for your face and absolutely love? That’s on the affordable side?
Since about a month or so after I quit smoking my skin on my face isn’t very happy with me. (Could be a coincidence, I just happened to notice around this time.) I have red patches on my cheeks all the time. I don’t find it to be pretty at all. I wash with stuff for sensitive skin and moisturize like the dickens every morning using the same stuff I’ve been using for years. I cover my face with a scarf when I go outside (harsh cold and wind!) and I know the weather affects it, but this has been going on since about October and it’s not freakishly cold and dry then. Help! |

Aveeno Ultra Calming face lotion
a product I use - my face sometimes gets red and blotchy as well - super sensitive and dry skin ( I have )

Have you seen a dermatologist? You might have rosacea or excema... We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I never have... Perhaps I should. I never go to the doctor. |

I never have... Perhaps I should. I never go to the doctor. Might not be a bad idea. The fact that you've had it since October without any improvement suggests it might be something more than dry skin. Neither of those things are going to be helped by OTC lotion. CarrieMpls said: horatio said: Noni juice? yup dont laugh, all the girls i know laugh about its name Your not going to want to go out with it on your face. But i would say putting it on when your at home about every other day or just to the affected area will clear it up asap. And kill any bacteria. And it has zero potential to dry or irritate your skin. One bottle could last you several months if you only use it in that manner. You can also take it internally, but some people cant get past the taste. I use it, say if i burn myself while cooking. The healing process doesn't go through all the stages it typically would. And the wound is never sensitive or stinging or blistering like it would typically.

She referred me to her dermatologist who I looked up online and turns out has been named a top dermatologist in the state! And she’s in my insurance network! So I called to make an appointment and being a new patient can’t get in with her until the end of February. Sigh… But I’m gonna see if I can get some moles removed at the same time. At least I’ve got an appointment, now, though. |

Good thinking to hit her up with as many things as you can in one visit! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I think they must get a LOT of that. |

miracle anything?
I suggest sun screen...People underestimate it's wonderous powers, even in the winter time If you will, so will I

depending on how your Target health insurance policy is, I'd go to a dermatologist...you could have rosacea, which is easily treated.

The only time I've gotten into a dermo in under six weeks was the time I said, "I'm pretty sure I have a basal cell cancer on my shoulder." They had me in within to two days...and the doc had a scalpel in his hand within five minutes of saying "hello." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. Carrie find a place that sells dermalogica and get faced mapped. They have special products for sensitive skin that may help. You could also have a food allergy that's causing flare ups. I was eating a jar of peanut butter a month and then found out I was allergic! If you are slathering moisturizer on that has something in it that you're allergic to then it's going to make things worse.
Good luck! | |

This is a good line of products that I've been using for a long time....your skin feels very clean after washing, and the moisturizers don't leave your face feeling greasy....not expensive either... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

I'd cut out the creams. Let your face sort itself out. If you have just quit smoking give your complexion time to enjoy it's new lease of life and then test a few brands. You have a new face, don't expect it to behave like the old one. Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!

That sounds all well and good but it's been 5 months since I quit smoking and the yucky red skin has been there around 4 and it's seemed to get worse over the last week or so. I can't take it any more. And my normal regimen has been to cleanse and moisturize every morning for YEARS. I haven't changed that routine, nor changed my usual lotion/sunblock in a looooong time. So either what I'm using is no longer effective enough at moisturizing or something else is goin' on. I'm used to having nice skin. |

That's actually what I use. A daily gentle cleanser for sensitive skin and their Total Effects moisturizer w/30 spf for sensitive skin. |

Like I said, that could just have been a coincidence. I just happened to notice cause a friend was asking how my skin was reacting to quitting smoking. I don't even know if that would affect it at all. |

I am not sure exactly what happens (dermatologically) when you quit but it is not going to happen over night and a few months would seem right for a total detox. It might just be that you old regimen is too rich for your post-smoke skin. Try something new that is a little lighter. I am no expert though.
