Ex-Moderator | I do not know my blood type.
I have never donated whole blood. I haven't because they didn't used to allow you to if you've had a tattoo or piecing in the last 12 months and somehow I always had something done. I could now, but I choose not to. I used to sell my plasma. It's the only income I had the summer I turned 21 and moved out of state. That was a very unpleasant experience. |

I asked my doctor years ago but I have forgotten.
It's standard procedure for blood work to be tested for blood type such as in prep for surgery and stuff. Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! REAL MUSIC by REAL MUSICIANS - Prince "I kind of wish there was a reason for Prince to make the site crash more" ~~ Ben |

i used to sell plasma too, when i was in college. everyone did. i was banned from the plasma center, though, when i passed out during a visit. oopsies!
i don't know what my blood type is, but last year i had blood work done during a check-up and got some crazy results. the doctor told me i was fine, but that i had "anomalous blood". so if any aliens should come to earth and need a blood transfusion, i guess i have the hook up.

A+ and yes I donate. One never knows when an emergency will arise. I had a friend that had to have some 8 pints after a car accident and was thankful they had it available. It was life and death for her.

in the early 90's my mother went through surgery for uterine cancer, my brother and both donated blood in her name in case she needed it...she didn't! she got through it fine, and is still cancer free i've been donating for two years recently..i started again after working in a hospital...but really only 3 times a year... 'why y'all trying to say goodbye? I didn't go anywhere, I'm right here, im all around you,always..'

A+
Used to donate every 8 weeks when the blood mobile would visit work. There was a few times in the past that I was turned away because I did not weigh enough and another time because I was receiving allergy injections. Those days are gone. I also had a time when they almost got the entire pint but my vein collapsed and they could not finish. Only donated plasma once, did not do it for money, did it for a friend. I have not given in over two years. I used to get a surge of energy after giving a pint. [Edited 1/16/09 11:35am]

AB positive, and yes, I have donated blood several times. With the shortage of blood, it's a nice thing to do. I need to donate blood again, it's been awhile. The American Red Cross sends me the dates, times and locations where you can donate blood each month. I need to get to one soon! RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

A+, and yes I've donated now and then...
Just a little aside....my daughter has the same blood type and had surgery 3 times, but the last 2 she had, the doctor wanted her to donate her own blood, which is the best of all possible worlds if you need it. At those times, I donated 8 pints in addition to her 8 pints....the doc almost refused my donations until I said "what if she would need more than 8 pints"? His response was something like "8 pints should be enough for any surgery, but if you feel you want to, then yes." I was always puzzled by that comment. Why would there be an hesitation to my volunteering my blood when there was nothing wrong with it? . [Edited 1/16/09 12:19pm]

I can't donate in the U.S. or Canada because I've had at least one incident of sexual contact with a male since 1977. [Edited 1/16/09 14:01pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

What would they pay for plasma? Do they still do that? I think I made under $200 a month. That's what I LIVED on for 3 months. (Of course, rent and all bills were taken care of already). This was 12 years ago, so it would be more now, I'm sure. It was a weird pay scale. You would get more the first time you went in for the month, less for the next few times and then more the last time of the month. You can only give twice in 7 days. |
