I actually have moved full circle. When I was a kid, my parents bought the house that I am living in now. I grew up here, got married, bought my own place. Then when my parents became too sick to care for themselves 12 years ago, my husband and two kids moved in with them. My parents since have passed on, and I remained in the house I grew up in.

Ex-Moderator | I think around 3 years is the longest I’ve lived in one place since I moved out of my parent’s house when I was 18. I'm currently living in my 12th place of residence and we only moved once as a child, when I was 2.
I hate having to pack and move and stuff but I do really enjoy the fresh start it allows. Since I move so frequently I simply can’t be a pack rat. Stuff gets thrown out or donated every time I prepare for a move. I’ll often have a box or two that hasn’t been unpacked from the last move and I always throw out about 90% of the content of those. It’s also when I go through my clothing and figure out what must go. |

Hate it. I dread the idea of it for myself. I don't mind helping other people move, though. I always consider it good exercise but I insist on not doing any stuff that requires anything more than muscle. Just load me up with boxes and don't ask me to wrap up glass or stuff like that.

I hate moving, stability is very important to me.
As a kid, I lived in the same house in Panama for the first 7 years of my life. Then we came to the states and we lived in an apartment for a year then moved into a duplex that I lived in for the next 9 years. As an adult, I lived on campus all three years I was in college then moved into my first apartment when I graduated. I lived there for 5 years until I bought my first house, which I lived in for 7 years. And now I've been in my "dream" house for the last 3 years and have no plans to go anywhere. I'll prolly downsize when I get older and retire.

Depends where you're moving from.
Our first home we loved, but it was way out of the way and seclusion got old so we were eager to move. Our second home we moved because my partner got a promotion. So it was for a good reason, however, we really dislike our current place and are EAGER and ready to move. Hopefully real soon.

Do you still live in the same house since you were born? Does moving house unsettle and stress you? Or do you get restless after too long in the one place, and enjoy the chance to start again and get cool new furniture and stuff? I've lived in my apartment for 15 years now. It's the only place I've called home since I moved out of my parents' house. I'm a nester. The thought of packing all my crap and moving scares me.

I would rather have my nutsack hairs plucked one-by-one with a pair of pliers than move. Been here for about seven years and no intentions of moving (unless a certain unit in the building goes up for sale).

Though I HATE HATE HATE the labor involved in a move, I rather enjoy a change of scenery.
Since my daughter has been born, though, I'm quite cognizant of the need to establish roots and stability for her. We will likely move from our current apartment when I graduate as we need a bit more space, but we'll likely stay in the same neighborhood. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I'd love the opportunity to move house as much as it's hard work, that is the kind of thing I thrive on change and novelty
A brand new place to fill with my stuff, a clean slate

we only moved twice since I was born, and I wasn't old enough to remember the first move, but it from an apartment to a townhouse, and then a big detached home which we still live in, it's been 15 years. My parents got separated though, and my dad moved to a basement apartment, and then a brand new home with an open concept.
One day I will have a beautiful flat of my own. [Edited 2/18/09 17:45pm]

If it wasn't cuz we can't stand this house or the shady landlord, it might not be as exciting.

I hate it so much, especially the time I moved 3x in one year!!! If I had it my way I'd never move again BUT I can't be an apartment forever. Hopefully I'll find a nice condo & stay put, or relocate to a new area & stay put. I basically like staying put It stresses me out beyond belief to have my entire life in boxes, OY!

I don't like packing up and moving my stuff out, but I have to confess I do enjoy unpacking and finding places for my things once all the boxes are moved into the new space.

I "moved cubicle" today, and I agree with Anxiety's comment above. I didn't like packing it up and moving it, but I liked leaving my old mess behind and having a fresh palette to create new chaos.

when we painted and recarpeted our house, we had to pack up and move everything, it was exciting to see new ways our furniture in different places, lots of things are now arranged totally differently to the previous 10 years, the cosyness problem (lack of) was solved by putting MORE stuff in there and we would never have guessed that until we'd moved several other rooms worth of stuff in there out of necessity. And stuff got packed away and forgotten about - like all the pictures from the walls haven't been put back up, I haven't the heart to go nailing holes in the walls again!

Can't wait getting in my new house next month, so I'll be able to decorate it the way I want Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity

We just finished moving. I hate feeling disorganized. But it was a chance to do some major, much needed spring cleaning and weeding out of stuff we had accumulated. My old stuff looks like crap in the new house, so now I want new everything. Peace. Love. Prince

How do you plan to decorate it? Eclectic. Contemporary/modern mix with LOTS of artwork and fun accents. I just picked up paints to get started this weekend (we got the keys yesterday). The kitchen will be RED, the guest bathroom/powder room will be a sateen black. OH I shall be postin a decor thread as I get the rooms done. How bout you??? [Edited 2/26/09 10:57am]
