This is one of my top ten 80s movies. It's really a great movie thumbs up! It proves that you can make a great, meaningful film without a huge budget, special effects, violence and other nonsense.

There's another Prince connection lol Listen to the music that is played when the credits are rolling at the end (right after the Simple Minds song). That's Jesse Johnson's song "Heart Too Hot To Hold".

There's a Prince connection in each of John Hughes' trifecta of teenage movies:
Sixteen Candles - the goofy kids on the school bus are playing 1999 on kazzoos. mushy
Weird Science - there a scene with Kelly Lebrock, I believe in the mall, when the play Private Joy woot!

Never cared for the song untill now,,,,,I was shocked to learn that its associated with the movie eek I've been hearing this song since I can't remember without knowing where it came from.

I believe Simple Minds recorded the song specifically for the film. I remember reading at the time the band didn't care for it that much since they didn't write it and it never appeared on any of their studio albums.

I have the 7". Jesse didn't produce the track though so it doesn't quite sound like his other stuff.

Yeah, I hear that term ever so often.

Can somebody hip me to that term? hmmm Is it a term to describe "80s teen movies", I'm not really sure what it means and where it came from?

The Brat Pack is a nickname given to a group of young actors and actresses who frequently appeared together in teen-oriented coming-of-age films in the 1980s. The term, a play on the Rat Pack from the 1950s and 1960s, was first popularized in a 1985 New York magazine cover story, which described a group of roughly interchangeable, but already highly successful and rich, teen stars

A lot of John Hughes' movies lost shine for me when I discovered how much of an ass Molly Ringwald was. But this stuff was gold for me when I was younger. This and a host of others:

'Last American Virgin' (If you've never seen this, it's a bit more than your average horny teen movie. The end is just crushing)
'Three O'Clock High'
'Heaven Help Us'
'Seven Minutes In Heaven'
'Fire With Fire'
'Fast Times At Ridgemont High'
'Valley Girl'
'Some Kind Of Wonderful'
