I swear up n down I am old (literally) to all who inquire.... (teachers n the lot. )I am not bragging but straight forth, yet am questioned. I'm good with my literal age. The world suffers a preconceived notion my skin is yet to match. Ahhh well... Its fun but concerning in that, I don't receive due respect.

My 18 year old niece called me last week to tell me she was going dancing at a club in Minneapolis down by me (she lives in the ‘burbs) and wanted to know if I would meet her there.
I burst out laughing.
She couldn’t figure out why I thought that was funny. I said because she didn’t want to go hang out with her OLD aunt.
She protested that I’m not OLD at all.

So there are two things at work here.
1 – My niece is old enough to go clubbing and that means I am OLD OLD OLD. She was born when I was in high school.
2 – I’m definitely the cool aunt if she actually wants to be seen with me in public, let alone in a club where she’s going dancing. cool So all is not completely lost yet.

Who cares about hip? "Hip" is a fad.

Much better to be cool. You can be cool at any age. cool

Let the chair say AHHHHH-MEN thumbs up!

As you get older...you care less and less what other people think of you. Which is the definition of cool. shrug

When I turned 16. I also started to care less whether I was "hip" or not. Don't get me wrong. I'm not 100% comfortable in my own skin, so I can be self-conscious. But, I just started to care "less" by then. I still contemplate every decision I make and whether it will harness backlash or not. Far from perfect, but just a little better than I was before.

I notice it increasingly... like when my 15-year-old niece told me about a dozen of her favorite big name bands, and I knew none of them.

I only partly care. I guess it'd be nice to know more of what's going on in the pop cultural world. But I don't particularly reel from not feeling part of "that" camp.

The decadence of Music, Entertainment, and just about any other form of Pop Culture went out in unison with my youth. I guess you could say I was the epitome of party-pooper or the quintessential posterchild for having an "Old Soul". All in all, I just wish "The Chase to have as much Momentum as The Catch used to have". You know. Discretion of all these technological resources that we've all become interdependent on. Whatever happened to the element of surprise? It's the little things like that, in general. I miss The 90's.

Back then, I was allowed to be naive. Back then, I wasn't ashamed of being gullible. On the upside, there's been great innovation over the years. We, as a nation, have overcome "SOME" of our unnecessary atrocities like racism (As The Current President-Elect can attest to) and homophobia (Many sectors and distinguished forums of the entertainment and corporal world have entities that can attest to this as they have triumphed/vanquished the system).

But, I don't know. I just miss the good old days. You know? When good commercial music wasn't out-of-contingency. The days when we were in contention with the uncertainty of whether or not we were going to catch our favorite television program. I know I'm rambling. But these are things I ponder when this subject comes up.

LOL..i know what u mean. at six flags about 3 years ago i got in the Batwing, which basically lays you on your back and then takes you through a bunch of loops. well after the ride you have to be stuck in your seat for like 5 minutes on your back until those fucking teenagers running the rides decide to let you out. i'll stick to wooden rollercoasters from now on..thanks.
