Why do you care so much about what I think? lol

Saks to me represents gross materialism, and I wouldn't lose any sleep if it were to shut down completely. I guess you're so defensive about it because you won't be able to shop there anymore? confused

Why don't you find people who agree with you instead of trying to argue with people who don't? Wouldn't that be more enjoyable for you? Besided, you're not going to be able to change my opinion.

Trust me, I really don't care what you or anyone up in here thinks about me cuz it impacts me in NO way whatsoever. And I don't NEED for anybody to "agree" with me. rolleyes I guess it's easier for you to attack me personally than to actually discuss/debate the issue in the thread that *I* created. I was simply responding to your comments cuz I thought that's what we did here. confuse But, don't worry, I won't make that mistake again. . . peace!

What!? How am I attacking you personally? lol

You tried to tell me that I was judgmental, and I disagreed. Whatever. Anywho, not wasting anymore space on YOUR thread. Bye!

Oh by the way, just because you don't know who I am doesn't automatically define me as a troll loser

Yeah, wouldn't it be great if the company that employs more people than any other entity in the US were to go under??? confused thumbs up!

while also being the biggest destroyer of small independent enterprise across the nation. Yeah that would be FUCKIN' AWESOME if they went under and got all those people back to work in their own shops. Put a little life back into Main Street. Maybe get some U.S. Manufacturing back on track seeing as EVERYTHING WalMart gets is made in China anyway...

Exactly...

who the hell shops at Saks anyway...

except for my mother in law confused

rolleyes Geez, judge much? It's not like they force people to shop there, so, obviously, there's a market for what they sell. And since they've been successfully operating for 84 years and this is their first time doing mass layoffs it sounds like they've been pretty smart over the years. How many other companies can say that?
I do not judge people for shopping there but it amazes me when stores charge whole prices for shit that they turn around and have to sell for way less when they can sell it for less and sell more. It's not just Saks I feel that way about, it's all stores. They screw people over so I have zero sympathy that many are closing.

And why can't all these places going out of business count? You do not go from being profitable one year to closing up shop the next.

rolleyes Ummmm, no there's not a market NOW, but they've been open for 84 years successfully. How many companies can make that claim???? And in case you haven't noticed, other companies are laying off too. So to infer that Saks is having difficulty just because they sell luxury goods is kinda silly IMO.

NOBODY is selling ANYTHING right now. And your comment sounded to me like you were judging them solely because they sell luxury items. You didn't make a snide remark about Circuit City closing ALL its stores and putting 30,000 people out of work. That seems like a much bigger failure IMO. But I guess because people that are viewed as the "haves" shop at Saks it's perfectly fine for THEIR employees to lose their jobs. Gotcha! thumbs up!

Oh, and YES I do shop there and I have many good friends that work there as well, who are probably losing their jobs this weekend. So, go ahead with your judging and do your happy dance if that's what makes you feel good. cool

Yes, I do feel sorry for the people losing their jobs and their families. Everyone owes it to themselves to find out the financial health of the company they work for. We are in a very good position right now: we have a president coming into office that may actually help put people back to work and avert a depression but we all have to step up and stop caring about more than just ourselves. I've been screaming that for years.

And I do not believe Karla was trolling this thread. She gave her two cents and didn't happen to agree with what Ms. SCNDLS said. We all disagree all the time.

I very much agree with you but have deep concern for the gadzillion employees who sustain themselves on the income. Many, do not have a lot of chance at competing in the job market.

I do get that the market would correct itself back into small business but that correction would take far more then a decade. Chaos would ensue from here to there. I don't know, the pendulum is swinging and maybe that needs be but its going to be catastrophic for all in the interim.

1) I didnt know it was Karla ( whom I like very much) but I stand on my remark. That wasnt two cents it was a personal attack on her shopping style when she was clear she was concerned for her friends employment. Unecessary.

Back to not thinking of myself and focusing on the people. I hear you but a good deal of people do not have your sense and sensibility and they are going to suffer deeply before this is said or done. Obahma himself has been very clear that it is going to be a long haul.

Americans are too busy caring aobut their own shit to actually band together and go to their representatives and tell them to stop the bullshit. We don't care about a damn thing until it affects us personally and that is the problem: if it's injustice for you, it's injustice for me. What kind of fucked up government continues to let corporation heads take million dollar bonuses when the company is failing?

razz Let me shine some light on why I don't care for Saks. My mother in law is COMPLETELY out of touch, name dropping, Chanel, Michael Kors, Tiffany, blah blah blah....She is also pro-Iraq War and pro Bush. She is small minded, and is constantly snobbing it up. She had friends who worked at the high end department stores. She didn't bother telling anyone that she got their DEEEP discount employee prices. She just perpetuated the lie that she wanted everyone to believe, that she could afford retail prices at Saks. barf I despise her attitude, and Saks represents people like her...to me, that is. Oh no!! The rich people don't have anywhere to shop anymore!! Whatever shall we do?!

I understand that SCwhatever her username is might be upset over her friends, but how does anyone justify spending $1500 on a goddamned blouse? Saks can go down as far as I'm concerned. Oh well! There's always Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdales. lol

See, I hate that sometimes quick replies cause misunderstanding. ( as well as the abundance of folks that troll under another name have caused me to be foolishly wary that everyone's a troll. You'll have to forgive me.)

Despicable, I so very much agree! I do think we can feel sorry for the wage earners without causing empathy for the foolish spenders. I've no concern for the types that will lack a place to purchase....

I do see that our need for things ( general reference) is so out of control we are about to get spanked in ways not yet known.

MOUSE TRAP.....

A mouse looked through the crack
In the wall to see the farmer
And his wife open a package.
What food might this contain?'
The mouse wondered - - -
He was devastated to discover
It was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard,
The mouse proclaimed the warning:
There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!'
The chicken clucked and scratched,
Raised her head and said,
'Mr.Mouse, I can tell this is a grave
Concern to you, but it is of no consequence
To me.I cannot be bothered by it.'
The mouse turned to the pig and told him,
'There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!'
The pig sympathized, but said,
'I am so very sorry, Mr.Mouse,
But there is nothing I can do about it
But pray. Be assured you are in my prayers.'
The mouse turned to the cow and said,
'There is a mousetrap in the house!
There is a mousetrap in the house!'
The cow said, 'Wow, Mr. Mouse.
I'm sorry for you,
But it's no skin off my nose.'
So, the mouse returned to the house,
Head down and dejected,
To face the farmer's mousetrap . . . Alone.
That very night a sound was heard
Throughoutthe house -- like the sound
Of a mousetrap catchingits prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught.

In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.
The snake bit the farmer's wife.
The farmer rushed her to the hospital,
And she returned home with a fever.
Everyone knows you treat a fever
With fresh chicken soup, so the farmer
Took his hatchet to the farmyard
For the soup's main ingredient.
But his wife's sickness continued,
So friends and neighbors came to sit
With her around the clock.
To feed them,
The farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well;
She died.
So many people came for her funeral,
The farmer had the cow slaughtered to
Provide enough meat for all of them.
The mouse looked upon it all from his
Crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is
Facing a problem and think it doesn't
Concern you, remember ----
When one of us is threatened,
We are all at risk.
We are all involved in this
Journey called life.
We must keep an eye out for
One another and make an extra effort
To encourage one another.
SEND THIS TO EVERYONE WHO
HAS EVER HELPED YOU OUT
AND LET THEM KNOW HOW
IMPORTANT THEY ARE.

REMEMBER. . .. . .

EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY;
OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER
FOR A REASON.

hmmm are you sure it's going to be worse than '29??? I know then, not only did the stock market fail but the banks failed too...right now, people still have money in their banks BUT I know that most are taking them out in fear of what may happen. And especially with banks constantly merging and buying each other out, its crazy rolleyes. I know because I was in danger of getting laid off from the bank I worked for until I recently found and accepted a job with the state government who just so happened to be hiring...and believe me, I look at the fact that I got that job as a blessing pray everyday, because people are losing theirs left and right everyday. Yes these are tough times, but I do pray that it won't be as worse as it was in '29. Not saying that we aren't close to the catastrophes that were encountered in '29, but I don't think we have quite hit to that type of rock bottom, as of yet.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It will not be bad as '29. There is enough hindsight and forethought for that not to happen. Congress just has to be smart about how they fix this. Giving this money to banks so there is liquidity is one thing but the banks are scared to loan money so not much is happening right now.

Part of what is going to have to happen is we have to start caring what happens to each other and fight.

Where I live we had a Circuit City and a Wal-Mart that sat next to each other and now they are both closed!!!

I hate the big ass ugly concrete buildings that Wal-Mart leaves behind. I have yet to see ANy business move into one of those warehouses. We are being told that maybe more Wal-marts will close here as well since the market is oversaturated with them!!!

Except for groceries I buy everything over the Internet sine I don't have much time to get out and all. But damn I can't tell you the last time my clothes said Made In America!!!

I buy local all the time and eat mostly at Mom and Pop places and support local business like my pet store, dry cleaners, car wash, stuff like that.

My company is private non-profit and we are on shaky ground becasue we depend on grants and state monies. I am nervous and I have my resume out on CareerBuilder been getting some good hits too. But I come to work everyday and do my best, that is all that I can do but my Negative Nancy co-workers are getting on my nerves!!! sad

But I come to work everyday and do my best, that is all that I can do but my Negative Nancy co-workers are getting on my nerves!!! sad

Ivy you are SO RIGHT!!!!! Folks are stuck on ME ME ME and what is the latest fashion, trend or fad out today.

I long for the times when I was a little girl and everybody scratched each other backs!!! Everything is so big and so commerical now, not the love and care of the "little man" shops of yesterday!!!

Yeah, sure, right, if you say so. I've learned not to believe anything you have to say, so let's just leave it at that, shall we? And please keep my name out of your mouth, mkay? Moving on.....
