What would they pay for plasma? Do they still do that?

I think I made under $200 a month. That's what I LIVED on for 3 months. lol (Of course, rent and all bills were taken care of already). This was 12 years ago, so it would be more now, I'm sure. It was a weird pay scale. You would get more the first time you went in for the month, less for the next few times and then more the last time of the month. You can only give twice in 7 days.

Dear God, twice in 7 days? You were caught up in a vampire ring for certain!

Plasma is used for all KINDS of things.
It's a really weird process. They take an amount of blood out and separate the cells from the plasma, then put the cells back in your vein and then the cycle repeats. At the end after several cycles of that when they've taken as much plasma as they can get dfrom you they fill you back up with saline and it's room temperature so you feel it going in all cold up your arm and stuff. It's WEIRD!
But I'm SO not afraid of needles after all I did then. lol

i used to sell plasma too, when i was in college. everyone did. i was banned from the plasma center, though, when i passed out during a visit. oopsies! redface

i don't know what my blood type is, but last year i had blood work done during a check-up and got some crazy results. the doctor told me i was fine, but that i had "anomalous blood". eek

so if any aliens should come to earth and need a blood transfusion, i guess i have the hook up. nuts

Interesting. Did you simply not disclose that you are gay and, presumably, sexually active?

Nope. They knew all that. I have blood that makes certain lab tests wonk out and give contradictory results. In other words, if a vampire tried to attack me, it'd be like drinking a bottle of Mad Dog.

Teacher

I'm O-.

I used to donate whole blood but unfortunately I scar very easily and I just didn't want to look like a junkie. Also, after I was hospitalised with the ruptured spleen in '98 they drew blood twice a day to check the bloodcount and then my veins decided to withdraw and regroup so to speak so they're hard to find in the bend of the arm. I'd give to a friend in an instant if they asked though.
I tried donating plasma once but fainted when I was done, right into the arms of a man standing behind me. falloff redface

No. And I really would like to, but they don't want it because I'm a filthy mud-blood.

Their lame excuse is that I lived in the UK during the 80's and as a result could be carrying variant CJD - which really is madness gone politically correct.

They have so many exclusions it's a wonder they get any blood at all. You can try getting through their Can I Give Blood Quiz.

I got knocked out of the running on question 7.

A-
I've been too ill to give blood this year but soon I will be able to do it again.
My veins are all used up so it will be interesting to see how they draw the blood. I get my bloodsticks and IVs in my feet cause I've been stuck too many times.

I don't know my type although when I was in 8th grade, our science class did a project where we all pricked our fingers and found out our blood types. I don't supposed that would fly now days.

I don't donate blood because I HATE the feeling of needles in my veins. Even reading this thread is making me woozy just thinking about it. I had to have surgery once which required an IV; I was in tears (at the age of 24 lol) because I didn't want something stuck in my vein. When I get blood drawn for tests I have to lie down and can't think about it. I have passed out from it before. So yeah, no blood donation for me.

I have never donated whole blood. I haven't because they didn't used to allow you to if you've had a tattoo or piecing in the last 12 months and somehow I always had something done.

I could now, but I choose not to.

I used to sell my plasma. It's the only income I had the summer I turned 21 and moved out of state. That was a very unpleasant experience. lol

Certain states defer you a year for tatoos. It means that the state you recieved the tattoo in is not a regulated state.
