Yes.....he was a dear friend of mine.....such a sad event. I was with him everyday the last week of his life and only left to go to work.....came in after work and he had just taken his last breath. I watched my friend suffer so much at the end that I was almost relieved at his death. I know that he is better off than even we.....is just how i feel.... adorable1

Yes, my best friend, Walter, and Francis, another friend from South Carolina who was only 32. She and I used to go out together all the time. I keep her pic in my photo album. Her death almost killed her father. He suffered a heart attack shortly after.

3 cousins and a friend of mine.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend, MRGee. Is he truly dying of AIDS-related illness(es) or is he just HIV+? How is he handling things? And how are you handling things? [Edited 1/15/09 22:59pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

My uncle died from AIDS back when I was 14 (18 years ago). What I remember most is how hearbroken my grandma was because this was the 2nd time in her life that she had to bury a child.

At least five people. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I am sorry to hear about your friend. May he, his family and friends like yourself find strength to help through this difficult time.
I am a fan of old TV shows (and old movies, too!) But I do not know so much about the actors/actresses, so I often look up bios on them. Anyway, did you know that Amanda Blake, "Miss Kitty," on Gunsmoke died of AIDS? A report by television station KRBK in Sacramento, where Blake was a longtime resident, quoted her friends as saying that her death was related to AIDS. In response to this report, Dr. Nishimura said that Blake had suffered from AIDS symptoms for about a year but that he did not know how she had contracted the disease. She had been married on April 28, 1984 in Austin, Texas to Mark Spaeth (27 July, 1939 - 27 May, 1985), who died of complications from AIDS. http://www.en.wikipedia.o...anda_Blake But as far as personally, I do not "know" anyone who has died from AIDS. I had two friends pass away from it years earlier, but I had never seen just how ravaging the disease is until my brother died from it. [Edited 1/16/09 4:33am]

Ex-Moderator | I have been lucky that no, I have not. Yet, anyway.
Though I do know of a handful of friends living with HIV. I am thankful for their continuing (relatively) good health. |

Yes, a friend of mine from High School passed away in the late 90s. I know several people living with HIV. If it wasn't for the advancement of the drug therapies for HIV,many of these people wouldn't be around, so I'm thankful for that. Please support your local AIDS charities, even though it's not in the news, people are still serio-converting and suffering from AIDS related illnesses. I've ran two marathons for APLA (AIDS Project Los Angeles). They're been around for years and are still helping people.

My cousin... although no one has ever said as much. It was 1991 and amongst my father's generation you just didn't speak of it. Gordon was young, an artist and living in the Netherlands. He died of complications from pneumonia. Thank goodness we've come a long way since then with medications and acceptance!

and the first guy i ever loved one day i will be added to the list. Wow. I'm speechless. Are you saying that you have AIDS? If so, I'm interested on what you have to say about living with it. I had a friend who had it but never talked about it and to this day, I have questions. But he died. He kept it quiet until he was really sick. He had 3 kids. Even though it didn't matter how he got it, I wanted to know. His sister wanted to know but he never talked about it. I'm not sure if he was ashamed which he had no reason to be. Or maybe it was painful to even think about. [Edited 1/16/09 10:32am]

I deeply sympathize with all of you who've been touched by this. As of this moment, I haven't had any friends die from AIDS. I don't want to say that I don't have any friends with it, because I really don't know that. I probably have friends that have it and don't know it. But I know that sadly, I will probably have friends that will.

I have had a good friend, an uncle and a cousin die from AIDS.
I have a couple of friends that are HIV+ and because of some of the new drugs that are out instead of waiting to die they have reinvigorated their lives. One of them is retiring from work, he's 50 and he has soo many cool plans. Another was just waiting for that horrible day but he reacted well to the drugs and decided to go to beauty school. He finished and is now working at a pretty cool salon. I'm so happy for them because they see a future and are much happier.
