I prefer Irish or Scottish accents.... a Scottish accent like Tommy Sheridan on Celebrity Big Brother has is very interesting
I don't find those accents sexy or anything like that.. they're just interesting.... I must say that not many accents are irritating to me.... but there are a few: A thick Southern accent and the typical Scouse (Liverpudlian) accent get kinda irritating to listen to after a while... Also, for some reason, I'm always annoyed when someone famous from my country speaks with a thick Icelandic accent, like when the head of the Central Bank is speaking English.,,, And then there are certain accents that to me sound funny... especially when Swedes or Danish folks have a thick accent when speaking English.. I've always found it funny that most Swedes I've heard talk English say "jöst" (j as the y in yes) when pronouncing the word "just".

Swedish politicians always make me ashamed... we have English from 3rd grade and they're still with the horrible accent. The "y" vs "j" is because we don't have the j="dj" sound in Swedish. Thankfully, I don't have an accent of any kind unless I choose to adopt an american/British/Aussie one.

Love British accents.
I have no accent at all. I"m American. But...due to watching lots of Masterpiece Theatre during my formative years, I can fake a British Accent dead on. I tried it out on a friend from London who said I have it down pat. I teach little kids, so I often read books with different accents, and my kids love it. Come to think of it, my French and Spanish accents have fooled folks too. I guess I'm a black female Rich Little...

PLEASE tell me you're not one of those people that lives in the US, but because you "visit" England a lot you talk with an English accent. you live in England, right? because if you don't live in England, i don't care how many freaking times you visit there, you're INTENTIONALLY speaking like that. which bugs the crap out of me, and reeks of what i like to call "douchebaggery". Neither do I live in the U.S., nor do I live in England. I live in Austria. Still, I rather have a British accent than any other (especially the Austrian English ), because it just sounds better in my opinion and why would I use an ugly, not "correct" accent like the Austrian when I'm actually able to use a perfectly British one? I would call that "douchebaggery". thank GOD. i've met some of the people i described above, and i tell you that bugs the living crap out of me. i think the grass is always greener. i love the British and Australian accents. French accents are hard to understand. and i don't like Middle Eastern or Eastern European accents. ditto with Japanese or Chinese. my Brit friends say they love my "accent", which i think is weird. http://www.facebook.com/p...111?ref=ts
y'all gone keep messin' around wit me and turn me back to the old me......

British accents seem to be more... extreme than elsewhere.
I have difficulty understanding Glaswegians, Brummies, Geordies and Cardiffians to the point that I am sometimes glad to reach an Indian Call Centre at times.

No matter whether someone is from New England or Texas, you can tell that he's American anyway. A Scottish accent is very unique too and completely different to the Norfolk kind of accent, but they are both British. My question was: Which do you prefer overall? It depends on which accents you're comparing. Dumb question. no it's not to the non-americans, youse all sound the same!!!

I'm Australian and it really depends. On tv I MUCH prefer American accents, actually I find them more appealing than Australian accents on tv, whereas the British accents kind of grate on my nerves. But when talking to people in real life British accents are much more 'normal' sounding to me, and American ones are just painful to listen to.

I am ok with US accents, it's when they get really whiney and twangy that I just have to leave the room (it's usually women - perhapst the higher pitch combined with some regional accent) some UK ones anoy me too Scousers, Glaswegians and Belfast (from men - women is actually quite ). Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!
