I was lazy and didn't read the entire thread...(asusual...:embarassed:)
dress codes are for uniformity and to make sure "we all look alike" which we know in this world is a travesty. I think we need to be aware of those that are so "closely knit" most times they think those who are diferent.....are weird. If i can't wear your uniform what does that make me....according to ....oh you. THE B EST BE YOURSELF AS LONG AS YOUR SELF ISNT A DYCK[/r]

honestly i don't care what retail employees wear! i realize they don't get paid much for the job they do, so why should they have to go out and spend money on fancy clothing to wear? as long as you are not showing your crotch to me with your outfit, i really don't care. i just want to run into target, or wherever and get what i need and get out.

Being a crotch watcher myself, depending the venue, that is something i could appreciate. [Edited 1/13/09 12:53pm]

Until you're the one calling the shots it won't change and once you're there you may actually see the value of said mythos. In this day and age companies are doing EVERYTHING they can to make every last dollar count, both on the front and back ends. For all I know I probably have to work twice as hard to make my sales based on my looks alone! I'm sure I'd have an easier time of it if all I did was shave... People calling the shots are rarely the ones dealing directly with customers. In many cases, they've never directly dealt with their company's clientele at all. Your issue, as you've described it, pertains to cleanliness of appearance and that absolutely does matter to customers. It is possible you'd be making more money if you shaved. But do you think that customers would be turned away by the colour of your shirt/ "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Thank you. The manager who took issue with my footwear -footwear that does indeed meet the written dress code requirements, mind -actually suggested I buy a new pair of shoes. I make $8 an hour. Unless the company is planning on reimbursing me the cost of the purchase that's quite the money to spend to suit the personal tastes of one manager out of four. All the dress code says is footwear must be black, close-toed, and not have high heels. My boots meet those criteria. And honestly, half the staff wear sneakers. I fail to see how sportswear can be appropriate and professional-looking if boots are not. As for customers, I find it incredibly hard to believe someone's not going buy movie tickets or upgrade their popcorn size based on what's on my feet. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
