Slumdog Millionaire, movie of the year!

It deserved all the Golden Globes it got. An amazing look at hope and how memory helps, especially in bad times. Also great look at how poverty affects India and how the coming capitalist wave is transforming India into something that might signal bad times ahead. Funny, uplifting, sweet, violent, lovely. a perfect film, Masterwork.

That second video is disturbing. From what I have seen in India, Indians are very generous with food, always sharing on trains. I don't think anyone would put a child's life at risk for a piece of bread. sad

Very good movie. A lot more violent than I expected. Admittedly, I didn't know what to expect really beyond an Indian love story. The first half of the film reminded me a lot of the Brazilian movie City of God.

There is massive starvation in India. They don't have food to go around.

You see, I didn't think it was such a good movie. It was very predictable.

Yes, these children are running through the slums of Mumbai working for the local crime boss. It was like City Of God in India.

Most of the stories in movies like these are pure fiction. This movie is fiction.
This is not the Mumbai I know, I spent a good deal of my childhood there in a wealthier section of that city. There is immense poverty there but apart from that nothing more. Most of these poor families believe in a system called Karma and would not even try to change their lifestyles as they believe this is what the gods have given them for this lifetime.

That's only half of it really. The other half is about the younger brother that grows up and goes on the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? TV show to try and find his childhood love from the slums.

Me too, I've only seen it talked about on the org and that piqued my interest in the film.
Now I really want to see it.

I liked it a lot but found a lot of it hard to stomach. I'm a a baby when it comes to trauma and kids - little boys especially.

It makes me physically ill - no joke.
