Caffeine actually enhances motor skills and mental functioning, especially in mathematics. It does also contribute to heart palpitations and the like.

It's also been proven that the tryptophan in turkey doesn't cause significant drowsiness...it's usually the heavy Thanksgiving meal that's the true culprit. I've never heard of anyone being pulled over for driving under the influence of turkey.

Chocolate does enhance mood but I wouldn't go as far as calling it an euphoria-like high. I think that would take a very very large amount of chocolate.

I understand what you're trying to say but your examples are a bit off.

I also understand what Teacher is trying to say. I've read many of Teacher's past threads about her life and I feel like I understand where she's coming from as well. She has a good point.

that doesnt mean one persons experience should chastise everyone else from having their own.

did i say that? rolleyes

all i mean is that i think i understand where Teacher is coming from and that she does have a good point. A point to be taken in consideration. It doesn't mean you have to agree with her.

Alcohol abuse kills people and destroys lives every day. Do you ever drink?

Caffeine abuse impairs mental functioning, motor skills, and causes high blood pressure and heart palpitations. Do you drink coffee, tea, or soda/pop?

Chocolate produces a euphoria-like high, and foods like turkey cause drowsiness making driving, among other activities, dangerous after a point.

Do you abstain from all of these? If so, kudos to you for standing by your principles. If not, take a look at what you've just said about "addictive substances" and see if you don't want to revise your position a little. It's not as black and white as you seem to want to believe.

The point is, overuse or abuse of just about any substance can be dangerous, not just those substances Nancy Reagan and a horde of cartoon characters commanded us all to Just Say No to. But just like not everyone who drinks is a gin-soaked lush, the majority of people who smoke pot are not perma-fried brain damaged druggies.

My examples were referring to abuse of each substance, not regular consumption.

Overuse of caffeine does interfere with motor skills. Ever try to write a letter with coffee-induced shakes?

Chemicals in chocolate have been shown to affect the same pleasure centers in the brain as are affected by THC.

Teacher's point is only valid as far as applies to people who abuse substances. She's painting the picture as if just the teeniest little inhale will turn a person into a comatose deviant waste of space. That's hardly what's going on. I understand the pain of having to see a friend come to harm because of drug use -believe me, I do -but denouncing marijuana, and by extension (since this is the thread's topic) an entire subculture because of it as stupid or lazy is overly simplistic.

You presume I give a fuck what others do - I don't, if they want to drug themselves they can do it, but I won't help - neither to approve, enable or treat. People don't need my approval, meow asked what people have against hippies and I said. Easy.

No, you didn't. You started ranting half-truths and exagerrations about drugs.

But what you have done is provide an excellent example for the question above I had a hard time elaborating on. Thank you for that.

I've never had caffeine induced shakes. lol Excessive use of caffeine can cause a host of problems, though. and i agree with your about chocolate being a mood enhancer, but a euphoria like high is pushing it. I do know that chocolate affects the same "pleasure center" as sex does, at least in women, but I think that sex, at least good sex, causes much more euphoria. I don't know about chocolate and THC.

Anyway, Teacher has stated her point and it is an interesting one. twocents

Overdo it on coffee one day, and you'll see it happen. Of course, everyone has different tolerance levels for caffeine, but I guarantee you there's a point where you can't keep your hands steady. lol

i hate coffee but i adore tea. i think that i just get sick of caffeine before i start to get the shakes. there comes a point where i really don't want any more caffeine, i just want to sleep.

Did/do 'hippies' generally work?

People take issue with others that do not work.

Like I said, I have never known a hippie who didn't work, or bathe for that matter, and I was born and raised by them, and now most of my friends are 2nd- and 3rd-generation hippies.

FYI, folks, tree planting counts as work. If you have to pay taxes on it, it's work. As for that self-righteous thing? There are self-important "socially forward" types in every group.

Seems to me a lot of people have made up their minds about people they don't actually interact with, but they've done a wonderful job of illustrating my point in starting this thread. Way to go, guys. thumbs up!

lol Yeah...that pretty much sums it up there. I really relate to the hippie lifestyle...love their philosophy about good karma, and being close to nature. BUT I draw the line when it comes to their hygine. Also, can't go veggie...I love burgers too much.

I have a lot of dear hippie friends...but damn they really need to take a bath more often. They downright stink!

First of all, stoner doesn't equal hippy.
They can cross over like anything, but it's not what it's all about at all!

The hippies I know are worldly, wise, clean, interesting, caring, creative and peaceful. Awesome people! campfire woot!
