Am I on the right track then? It sits in there irritating the uterus so that it is always in flux rendering it inhospitable to a fertilized egg? Are they unable to have kids because it creates scar tissue? my mum had one, one day she haemhorraged all over the place, the IUD had punctured some benign fibroids she didn't know she had. The whole thing was such a mess they gave her an emergency hysterectomy I was so scared, I was only 10.

Someone once told me they could feel their ovary releasing an egg. Is that true ladies? Can you feel an egg bursting forth? If so, what does that feel like? I know for sure I can't feel the sperm facory at work i used to think that was crazy lady talk but sometimes i know when i've just ovulated. it's just a sharp quick pain in the area of your ovary. if you've noticed clear discharge and then feel that pain you just think "hmm bet i just ovulated" no biggie but supa your sperm factory is always at work so maybe you do feel it, it just feels normal

SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: OK, how does the IUD work? It doesn't look like it would prevent the sperm from entering the womb. Is it like an irritant that keeps the womb hostile and upset so that an egg won't attach? I don't get how a little T shaped thing prevents pregnancy.
The copper in the standard (ie. non-hormonal one) is toxic to sperm, so that's part of it. And then, yeah, having the IUD in the uterus does create mild irritation and prevent implantation, should an egg manage to be fertilized. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? I know for sure I can't feel the sperm facory at work You can't actually feel the release of the egg, per se, but the development of the follicle can stretch the ovary to the point that it aches. And some women develop cysts that persist past ovulation, instead of normal progression to the corpus luteum (I'm one of them), and when they rupture, it's a sudden, sharp pain. I suppose it's possible to feel that pain when a normal follicle ruptures, but most women don't. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"
