I heard the talk show hosts on my local radio station discussing exercise gyms and if their fees are expensive or is it worth spending the money in these hard economic times.

If you are a regular exercise facility user, what's your opinion?

Yes, they are expensive. But EVERY gym package is cheaper than a cable bill in which you'd be sitting on your ass waching T.V.

Gold's gym, which I believe is also in canada tends to have the nicest facilities and charge about 60 dollars a month.

The Golds gym near me actually has a "dark room" which is a room full of treadmills and other cardio equipment facing a large movie theatre screen that plays current movies. It's like being at the movies, but you're sweating your ass off lol

Plus it has an in door padded running track on the second floor that allows you to run 1/4 mile a loop and you can see the entire gym below you.

If you're disciplined enough to get free weights, and do them at home, and jog around your neighborhood every day, that's a good option. And buying cardio equipment would actually be cheaper than a year at the gym.

But I much prefer the environment at the gym.
Plus there are some FOINE ass people to look at.

That does sound awesome. I don't really care for treadmills because I feel like a gerbil on a wheel but if I had that option, I would be more apt to use one.

When it's not below freezing here, I just go for long walks (4.5 miles around my nearest lake and back). It sucks not to be able to do anything through the winter, though.
I've always wanted to take up jogging/running but I don't think that'll ever work for me. They don't make a jogging bra that works well enough, it's too painful. lol

I'm a member of my local Y. It was $50 to join and I caught a special that was $25 a month for the life of my membership. I thought it was a good deal and particularly because I use it regularly.

Yikes! That's awesome. The Y here is $55 a month, you get a 5% discount if you buy 6 months or a year at a time.

You should look @ what Title Nine has - they rate them according to strength. I bought a "4 barbel" bra that works GREAT, no bounce in my kickboxing class. I usually ALWAYS bounce lol

I pay @ $25 more at New York Sports Club. The good thing is I can go to any NYSC in the NY, Long Island & Westchester.

Mine is like $24 per month. Which feels expensive to me right now, but I think of it as a mental health fee. It has a lap pool, sauna, steam room, and hot tub on top of the usual gym stuff. I love it.

Mine is a big chain (24-Hour Fitness). All of the locally-owned gyms are twice that much.

I just purchased 2 yrs for $289 for 24 hr fitness, which is $12 a month. I think I got a very good deal! I was paying $16 at Bally's and their hours did not work for me.

I paid 600 bucks to 24hour fitness in 2002 for a three year contract and after that they gave me a deal of a lifetime which comes out to 49bucks per year forever
