How does your body react to hunger and food cravings?

I was thinking about this because the way my body reacts to hunger is pretty weird, or so I think anyway. I know we're not all the same with this, hence the question. What happens to me when I get hungry:
1. Tummy growls (no shit)
2. If I ignore it or forget to eat, I get shaky and feel nervous. This is VERY much like withdrawal like when I was on heavy painkillers and stopped, it feels a lot like that. It's wacky
3. I get headaches

Then food cravings - my body gets VERY specific when it feels I need a certain type of food. I get cravings for just about anything and everything if I haven't had enough of it - from salt to sugar, fish to fruit and veggies. It kinda feels good when you get a craving and realise it's for cucumber and tomatoes instead of candy or chips. lol Not so good when it's the other way around though. confused

So, how does your body work?

yeah, without food the metabolism slows right down and body core temp drops - I need to eat, but nothing seems appetising to me sad

Don't look in the fridge or cupboards, go through food in your head until you find what you want - that's what your body needs. It's how my food craving work, I can be so hungry I'm nauseous but until I come up with it (for example veggies with a vinaigrette dressing), I don't want anything. Do it! nod However, if you want to lose weight, substitute the fat or sugar in candy/snacks for the same but in food. nod

awww pat It's really strange that I don't get grumpy since my normal disposition is so sunny... NOT, but I just get... withdrawal. disbelief

This week I'm on a fruit and veggies binge, all the holiday food did that. I've got kiwi fruit and grren grapes, and cucumber, tomatoes, corn, basil, red onions and vinaigrette dressing to go with it. drool

I get lightleaded and bitchy if I go a while without food. I have a high metabolism and a low body fat percentage so I have to have snacks between meals.

Otherwise I am charming and a complete joy in every way! biggrin

Seriously, when I'm very hungry I get short-tempered, and if food isn't readily accessible I'll eat practically anything just to put something in my stomach. Once on a car trip I was reduced to eating a bunch of Rolaids because they were the only edible thing at hand.

I used to be horrible when hungry. If I got past the point of hunger, I would just hate everyone eek I'm not as bad any more, thankfully.

My stomach just growls. I can actually go long periods of time without really feeling the want or need to eat,it's not until I see a pizza commercial or read threads like this that I really start to get hungry..thanks! lol
