Car Painting

I need to get Camille the Cavalier painted, she is 10 yrs old now with low miles. The shop I used for my other car has gone out of business due to the credit crunch and when gas was really high.

My car has low miles i just want the black paint to look good again showing signs of aging in spots. I have already picked out three companies and done a background check with the Better Business Bureau. One has no information and the other two are in good standing. All have been in business 3 yrs or longer.

In about three months I will visit the shops one by one and ask all kinds of questions.

My main question is that the Maaco Paint Shop has an excellent rating here in my town but when I went on line i keep reading horror stories of bad service and poor quality in other states that is. I also know I dont and won't spend $3000 for a paint job when I am trying to get out of debt as well.

My question is has anybody here every used MAACO and what was you experiece like?? Thanks!!!!!

I've got a few friends in the auto body industry. When it comes to paint jobs, price really dictates the quality of your paint job. If you AREN'T spending around 2 grand, expect it to look nice for a year or so. After that, the cheap paint will most likely oxidize (probably what you are seeing now from your OEM paint). It is also more prone to scratching and chipping.

Basically, it's not worth it unless you are getting a true re-paint. It will look nice, but not for long. Live with the aged paint that is on there now. Also, regardless of which paint job you go with, you will receive 0% back in resale. You may be able to demand $100 more than value. Just a thought to keep in mind.

thumbs up!

in our area, most of the major locally owned body shops are pretty reluctant to do straight up paint jobs...labor, time and materials are at a premium and to be able to compete with national chains, paintjobs simply aren't price effective for them....

that being said, the national chains usually do a shitty job...cheap materials, substandard labor, etc. are the norm....

in my experience, the BBB isn't a very good measure of this type of service...the BBB receives complaints all the time that are less than legit and it does little to resolve the complaints...other than sending out letters and telling potential customers that somebody complained about a paticular companys services, the BBB serves no purpose (IMO)...word of mouth from friends, family or coworkers will be a more honest representation of what you could expect...that third party shit seems a lil' shady to me....

all that being said, if you dont wanna spend alot of money, you'd probably be better off driving Camille as she is...one great thing about paint is that it has absolutely nothing to do with getting you from point A to point B....
