Is the spoiler that the movie is a gigantic turd?
I already knew that. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

that was what i was thinking!!! sure, it was very sad, but i kept thinking - 'surely they wont SHOW this shit' it was too late for me to get the kids out before they knew what was going to happen and on the spot i started to think that maybe their lil minds could somehow make it worse than it really was so i sat there crying with my kids and everyone else in the movie... when it was over, brianna said to me, 'momma, get rid of all of our animals, i cant handle it when they die' just wish i would have had more notice or known what the movie was really about before i signed us up for a happy family christmas movie One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

What's the problem? Animals die. Yes, it's sad. Terribly so. I'm still not really over the loss of my two childhood dogs almost 4 years ago, nor do I think I ever will be.
But it's a fact of pet ownership. No matter how they go, it will happen. Everyone who loves a pet, even children, will one day have to contend with that. And pardon my criticism -I've been accused of trying to tell people how to parent before -but isn't it your job to find out what's going on with a movie before you take your juniors to see it? Just because something has an animal in it does not mean it's going to be a cheery endeavour. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

You complained about the content of a movie you brought your kids to see without finding out first whether it was something you thought they could handle. And obviously I'm the bad guy for pointing that out. Gotcha. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Only after many saw it. Did you see the commercials? Sure death is a part of life, but the way they ran this one, it wasn't immediately evident.

I'm sure someone out there going to the movie had a handle on what was going to happen. Also, given that we live in the age of teh interwebz, access to any information we might like about any given movie is right at our fingertips. Considering even Disney movies can feature major character-related tragedy, shouldn't folks be investigating a bit if they think their short people can't handle what might be shown? Ah, forgive me. My new-ish job at a movie theatre has given me sort of a hair-trigger reaction to parents (or guardians, older siblings, babysitters, whatever) who make questionable choices in flicks for the kiddies. Some guy brought a 5 year old in to see Repo today. I thought that movie was fucking awesome. But bringing a kindergartener in to see it? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Don't even get me started on the number of kids at Role Models. Youngins have been showing up in droves for that movie, meanwhile Bolt and Madagascar 2 sit practically empty. On the other hand, maybe the folks who make kid movies should be asking themselves why kids would rather see two overgrown man-children be crude for 2 hours than watch a talking dog or a set of oddly-geometrical zoo animals. What kind of information are you referring to? if you dont want to know, stop reading this now.... dont go any further.... it will give the movie away.... seriously, stop now! the dog gets old and sick, and has to be put down. i was surprised and i imagine the other folks were too when the showed the animal being put to sleep. the injection and everything, the iv, the checking for heartbeat afterwards, it was pretty intense. i think they could have done the whole thing without having to show that, thats the part that i had no idea they were going to show... it lasted a good 5 minutes and it was kinda hard to watch, the whole scene i mean - sad, very very sad. I'm not going to read this thread, but since I've seen this thread title a few days ago, I saw the title somewhere and realized it was a movie.
Now I may want to see it. Boy the power of suggestion is strong.

If it was described in the book, why wouldn't it be in the movie? It's one thing to read about an animal being put to sleep, it's another thing entirely to actually witness it. At every veterinary hospital that I've worked at we have to prepare owners for what they are about to see if they choose to stay in the room when their animal is put to sleep. Then in veterinary school they lecture to us pretty intensely on how to handle it ourselves and how to help owners through it. I could see the dog being put to sleep at the end of the movie as not being too horrible but to actually see the entire process is a bit much to experience without being prepared for it. I've never read the book 'Marley and Me' but I do know that there were two versions of the book released, one for adults and one for children. Did the children's version include the detailed euthanasia scene?

I still get teary eyed when I think about Hannah, the dog I grew up with, getting put down. She was old and was on a very steep decline...she didn't really recognize familiar people anymore, she couldn't climb up the stairs, she wasn't interested in food. They let me be with her while they did it and she went pretty quickly and easily. It's still one of the saddest things I've ever been through.
