Veronikka... I cannot get over how bangin your avatar is. Beautiful! I color my own hair now too. I have gone cheap and do Great Clips and no more sulfite free shampoo and get the cheap drug store crap (L'Oreal). But my hair is short now and a hack job that they do at those cheap spots can be remedied by my little razor cutter that I use shape up my hair cut at home after the cut. Now if I had long hair I would NEVER go to beauty school rejects for an edge up. Cut my hair budget from $125 a month down to $50.

Actually...that's not true. One of the first things people cut down on during tough economic times is stuff like getting their hair or nails done. They might stretch a cut or color for a couple extra weeks...or even longer. My stylist was talking about this the last time I was in...and I've noticed a lot less traffic at the nail salon in the last couple months, too. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It's a good job you don't live in London... a colour, cut and dry last week cost me £70, and that's just a 6 weekly maintenance visit to a small salon in the suburbs!!
Just remember, if your wife likes the eventual result, will she be going every 6 weeks to keep the colour and cut in shape? Do u have the energy for a flip every 6 weeks? There is a crack, a crack in everything - that's how the light gets in.

My step-sister got her own chair and now only charges me $80 (including tip) to do all those things plus wax my eyebrows and upper lip. Plus she gives me a parafin wax dip for my hands. Of course, I have to do these things about every 8 weeks so it really starts adding up, even with the discount. I get this done too girl!!!! And do you believe that some women don't believe in waxing their upper lip? They are crazy, thats something I just can't do without. I consider it a necessity. I used to be one of those women until I hit 30 and started growing whiskers. I'd probably look like Magnum P.I. at this point if I hadn't started waxing. Shake it til ya make it

I have loved reading as this thread has progressed on. The affirmation that this is about the going rate for a styling like this helps. But something happened today to put the whole thing in perspective.
As I mentioned yesterday, the highlights didn't go through comepletely so we had to go back today. So we made a day of it and while my wife was getting her hair reconfigured, me an my two girls trekked through the mall to pass the time. And so the expense was compounded. First the $75 that I really wanted my wife to have for Christmas. Plus the unexpected $50. But now, even though my wife was getting it re-done for free there were mall fees. Supper at food court, ice cream at Dairy Queen, and of course a stop at Claires, the boutique for the pre-teen girl set. I managed to get out of there only buying a couple of trinkets but now, the haircut and residual charges was damn near reaching $200. (Thank God, there was no time for Build A Bear). Please understand, I love spending money on my little ladies and my wife, I am not complaining. And we are giving but do not spoil and would not even if we had more money. My point is that this just goes to show how much things "really" cost sometimes. While me an the girls were shopping, my wife almost passed out. When she was under the dryer, she felt faint and actually had to get up and tell them at the front that she thought she was going to pass out. She mentioned she had diabetes and someone quickly got her a Sprite which she had to drink just to get her sugar back up. She had gotten really low and she told me that she was really scared. My wife regulates her sugar really well and actually has handled her diabetes wonderfully but she has gotten unusually low a couple of times over the past couple of weeks which has scared us a little bit. She said tonight she could have possibly passed out before she told someone about the diabetes and the thought scares us both...what could happen if there was time wasted trying to figure out what was wrong with this person who just passed out. The hair cut looks good...the highlights took the second time. My wife deserves a good haircut. She asks for nothing. She is completely giving. And yes we are on a budget but life is also short. Too damn short. So I am at peace with the expense and grateful for the quick thinking hair stylist who brought the Sprite to my wife. And mostly I'm grateful that I have this wonderful person in my life. [Edited 1/3/09 19:37pm] All good things they say never last...

My wife spends $30 for a trim, and $60 for a cut...and it's once every few months at best. She colors her own hair. I go to Supercuts and get a $14 cut every 4 weeks. There's a barber shop near me run by Russian jews (I think) that only charges $12...but I kept getting bad cuts there whenever the owner wasn't available himself, so I stopped going. You really shouldn't count all that other stuff. You guys could have eaten @ home, said "no" to Dairy Queen & passed right by Claires. Her hair cost what it cost, but don't tack all that extra onto her head

I would like to try a sulfite free shampoo, just to see if I see/feel a difference, I need to look for one Rhythm floods my heart♥The melody it feeds my soul

We say no our girls 9 times out of 10 when it comes to things they want and I figured while we were out there, we might as well have some fun. But I concede the point that the real figure in question is the extra $50 not orignally included in the gift card. All good things they say never last...
