Whose typing and writing has gone to shit lately? I have no idea what's going on!
Typically, I'm a super fast typist with very few errors. Lately, I'm fucking up all over the place. And aside from that, I'm mixing up and misspelling tons of words. What's up with that? I was at the top of my class in writing and English. Is there a great dumbing down that happens in your 30's? Is it stress? Fatigue? Brain rot from staring at a screen for over a decade? Please tell me I'm not alone!

I sure I meant to say sumthin', but I'm sure it was just a George Michael moment.
I am sure it's a 30's thing. I do it all the time. I can't find the smiplest words, but became very adept at finding words covering the thing I want to convey. I will let that typo be, heh. [Edited 1/25/09 13:36pm]

I've been going through the same thing.
Part of it's because I sometimes get the odd sticky key on my laptop. The D or the A or the L or something goes wonky for a couple of weeks and then it's fine, and then a different one gets weird. A lot of it has to do with the laziness that comes with casual writing on the internet. Or even moreso with the need to abbreviate things for text messaging. What really bugs me is when I notice that I've made a typo that is just outright wrong, like with homonyms (no, wait... homophones) when I really know the difference but wrote a different word. I look back at things I wrote a few years ago, even here, and I can't believe how far I've fallen, despite all the practice I've done in the last year or so. It's discouraging. It used to be my greatest asset/talent. [Edited 1/25/09 13:34pm]

Ooh, what I do ALL the time is mix up letters due to sloppy typing (like the typo in my previous post) but as I often ponder on what the entire sentence is going to be, I find myself typing words that should end up further along the line. Sometimes I type so fast I don't even notice.

I've definitely noticed a decline in my 30s in spelling and syntax. Things that I used to consider complete no brainers, that I would knock out of the park automatically, now make me wrinkle my forehead. A big part of it is age I'm sure, though I place some of the blame for my haphazard grammar on my job: I can get hundreds of e-mails a day which requires knocking off quick one line directions to other people. I really think that's introduced a lot of laziness in my writing style - lots of quick, terse, incomplete sentences.
My typing has never been better, however. [Edited 1/25/09 13:59pm]

That should read: My typing has never been better, however thank you, i caught that about about a minute after i posted. apostrophes are defintely an achilles' heel for me. i know the rules, but i always gloss by them when i'm typing. [Edited 1/25/09 13:55pm]

I'm sure glad that you posted this. I have been doing the same thing lately. Not so much with the typing, cause I have never been a really faster typer anyway, but with the spelling.I have always been an excellent speller, but lately when I go to spell something I find myself doubting whether it is right, and then I have to check to make sure. It makes me feel really stupid. [Edited 1/25/09 14:05pm] Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

It happens with age, I think, too many other things going on in the brain.
I used to be good at recalling words and spelling. Now I have to think, "How is that spelled again?".

Mine has always been shitty (Both). I need to structure my sentences better. Run-ons, syntax errors, frags, grammatical errors, etc. This sig is just a fig of your imago-neigh-shun

My typing has been shitty lately as well. I had to take a typing assessment and the speed was well under what was normal for me. I've been taking typing tests online to recapture my speed, but I think my bi-lateral carpal tunnel has a lot to do with it
Smooches;) [Edited 1/25/09 16:35pm]
