seriously though. The most humbling experience I've had is Seeing the Grand Canyon in person...pictures are cool and all...but in real life...it's scary and beautiful, imposing, embracing all at the same time.

The Grand Canyon and Yellowstone are the two most humbling & stunning places I have ever been.
Must see places nod

I thought Yosemite is more beautiful than Yellowstone, but Yellowstone is more interesting & weird & has better wildlife

yeah that's probably the coolest thing I've seen, though Niagra Falls is pretty amazing too--despite the gift shops & casinos everywhere.

Niagra Falls WAS cool. Too much touristy stuff, but it kinda comes with the territory. Something I'll never forget for more than one reason.

hokie

1. Grand Canyon (Arizona)
2. Yosemite (California)
3. The Redwoods (California)
4. Niagra Falls (New York)
5. Some of the desert in Utah is gorgeous.

I don't know if you want to travel that far though. It's a long way. (Except for Niagra, although it's still a good little trek from NYC).

The wildlife was amazing.... elk, buffalo, moose, bear. Definitely different, interesting and amazing.
I was pleasantly surprised by Grand Tetons & Jackson Hole right outside of Yellowstone, pure natural beauty.
Yosemite is high on my list of must see places.

One good thing about the American side is that it's a park. It doesn't have the famous view, but it's still amazing and not as touristy.

no I haven't. where Yellowstone? The whole thing is an enormous volcano, so it wouldn't be surprising. but Yosemite must have them too. you can't form mountains & cliff like that without the earth moving!

The Adirondacks are also worth seeing in upstate New York.

Niagara Falls is really the centerpiece of the northeast when it comes to nature. It's an eight hour drive (more or less) from NYC.

I remember being impressed with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel in Virginia when I drove over it, but that's more of an engineering marvel.

that looks very interesting eek I love stuff like that geek

Personally, I think you should skip LA and fly into San Francisco, and spend a couple days with me walking the hills & riding the cable cars. Then you can fly to NYC & spend the bulk of your time there if that's your main destination. But San Francisco is on your way, at least, and it is not only a great city but has natural beauty!

The East has some natural beauty, definitely, just not as world famous as Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Tahoe, etc. The mountains aren't as big, the canyons not as deep, the trees not as tall. But the mountains & beaches of North Carolina are nice, the rolling hills of Virginia, upstate New York is beautiful (which you'd see on your way to Niagra falls).

What the east has is the cities: NYC, Boston, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Miami.

now how can I refuse that razz

To break it down, the east is rolling hills, low green mountains
and bustling cities...beautiful scenery and coastline...

The midwest is a nondescript transition pout Not that there
isn't any beautiful scenery here however lol

And the west is more wide open, wild, high snowy mountains....
gorgeous scenery in a different way from the east, until you
get right along the west coast, which is for the most part rugged
and rocky in the north to sandy beaches in the south...of course
then you have bustling cities there such as Los Angeles and San Diego.

Then going from north to south....the temps at this time of year are
colder in the north and warmer in the south.

And if you plan to be in the northeast (New York City, etc.) you have to
expect to have snow if you'll be there in the winter months.....just in
case nobody's told you lol

I'm just being practical lol

hug
I like your summary - to the point nod
we'll be there last 2-3 weeks in April
