Niagara Falls is really the centerpiece of the northeast when it comes to nature. It's an eight hour drive (more or less) from NYC.

I remember being impressed with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel in Virginia when I drove over it, but that's more of an engineering marvel.

Been over/through several times nod

It is a marvel.

I would love to see Niagra Falls.

NYC. It even has nature: Central Park! biggrin

If you are into US history, then hit DC. It's a short train ride from New York *(and most of the museums there offer free admission).

The Black Hills/Badlands are nice as far as nature goes, but they are in the middle of nowhere (western South Dakota).
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I'd like to see some nature nod something I could only see over there

The grand canyon, niagra falls, yosemite park, the redwoods in california, the badlands in the south dakota, the bayous in louisiana, the great lakes... lol

and they are beautiful in the winter too!! i'd say come to the rockies in canada and i'll show you around but i know that's not going to happen pout

I vote sequoia forest and grand canyon. niagra is an amazing force of nature but you've already seen that huge fall in south america so... confused the badlands are gorgeous but better appreciated in the summer. Driving through yellowstone national park in early april I couldn't believe the amount of snow that was there. everywhere the snow was up to the rooftops! in april!

If you're going to stick to the east coast, then you still have options.

The White Mountains of New Hampshire are nice.

You could drive up the Mt. Washington Road there, and visit the place where the highest wind speed ever recorded on earth was. They'll only let you drive up there if the weather conditions permit it. Otherwise, the White Mountains are very nice.

hehey! that's where I live! so if you come here...I'll take ya ta lunch! or a drink or something! it's ffffrrreezzing here right now though, and I don't think they'd let ya drive up the mountain right now.

if I could only see one place in the US (again) before I die...it would be the grand canyon. You must make that your priority...and it's warm there.

If you have 3 weeks to spend in the States, the best place to see is Toronto.

Personally, I think you should skip LA and fly into San Francisco, and spend a couple days with me walking the hills & riding the cable cars. Then you can fly to NYC & spend the bulk of your time there if that's your main destination. But San Francisco is on your way, at least, and it is not only a great city but has natural beauty!

The East has some natural beauty, definitely, just not as world famous as Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Tahoe, etc. The mountains aren't as big, the canyons not as deep, the trees not as tall. But the mountains & beaches of North Carolina are nice, the rolling hills of Virginia, upstate New York is beautiful (which you'd see on your way to Niagra falls).

What the east has is the cities: NYC, Boston, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Miami.

I went in late May 2003 and it was pretty cold then, too. It's at like 7000 feet elevation, and we were camping. Not unbearably cold, but definitely cold in the mornings, particularly.

Was it June 2008? 2003 was a really wet year, the rain followed us all across the country.

I saw Oklahoma in springtime and it was beautiful, green rolling hills. Oklahoma City looked really cool too, more than I expected.

Really?? Maybe it's because I live here, and see the area. I live in Norman, which is right by OKC.

seriously though. The most humbling experience I've had is Seeing the Grand Canyon in person...pictures are cool and all...but in real life...it's scary and beautiful, imposing, embracing all at the same time.

yeah that's probably the coolest thing I've seen, though Niagra Falls is pretty amazing too--despite the gift shops & casinos everywhere.

obsessed

To break it down, the east is rolling hills, low green mountains
and bustling cities...beautiful scenery and coastline...

The midwest is a nondescript transition pout Not that there
isn't any beautiful scenery here however lol

And the west is more wide open, wild, high snowy mountains....
gorgeous scenery in a different way from the east, until you
get right along the west coast, which is for the most part rugged
and rocky in the north to sandy beaches in the south...of course
then you have bustling cities there such as Los Angeles and San Diego.

Then going from north to south....the temps at this time of year are
colder in the north and warmer in the south.

And if you plan to be in the northeast (New York City, etc.) you have to
expect to have snow if you'll be there in the winter months.....just in
case nobody's told you lol

I'm just being practical lol
