Now, are you a hotdish whore or will I be one of the select few you cooked it for? batting eyes

I don't think I've ever actually made a hot dish. I live alone and that's the kind of thing that feeds many people. Plus it's lots of FAT. lol

That said, it's really easy and really yummy. So it will still be delicious. batting eyes

touched

You didn't mention cheese. Can you put some in there? I like a little food with my cheese lol

i grew up calling them casseroles. i never heard "hot dish" till i moved to minnesota. actually, i think they have both out here, because darin makes the tater tot hot dish, yet he also makes shoepeg corn casserole. i don't know what distinguishes one from the other. i just nod and smile because all i want to do is eat. hell, i'd call the shit "aunt sally" if it gets me a corner piece. drool

My mom used to make meatloaf and casserole sorts of dishes in muffin tins, so that every piece was like a corner piece. In otherwords, my mom is awesome.

I think you call them "casseroles" in other parts of the US. Hotdish is stictly Minnesotan (I think) and often are served at lutheran church potluck dinners.

Basically it's ground beef, some kind of cream soup and something else all put in a big dish with something crispy on top and then baked in the oven.

Ome of my best friends makes an awesome tater tot hotdish which is cream of mushroom soup, veggie crumbles (faux ground beef) and canned green beans all mixed together, topped with tater tots in a single layer and baked in the oven.

My mom was famous for her chow mein hotdish and my grandma always made pizza hotdish.

This was the solution:

"Minnesota's most popular native food, Hotdish, is constructed on a base of canned cream of mushroom soup and canned vegetables. If you sit down to something that doesn't look like anything you've ever seen before, it's probably Hotdish"

eek

I thought it was cream of mushrooms and veggies only and just imagined you guys surviving on that stuff in the winter lol But yes, we have casseroles here and I'm glad to know that you can trick out a hotdish instead of just being soup and corn ill

lol

wink

OMG, new cooking show idea:

TRICK MY HOTDISH lol lol lol
