No it shouldn't What the bloody Hell is an Hotdish besides a dish that is hot! You should have seen the puzzle I solved. I didn't think a hotdish would actually be called hotdish so I tried for the longest time trying to fill in the blanks to figure out the name of the dish 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Ex-Moderator | I think you call them "casseroles" in other parts of the US. Hotdish is stictly Minnesotan (I think) and often are served at lutheran church potluck dinners. Basically it's ground beef, some kind of cream soup and something else all put in a big dish with something crispy on top and then baked in the oven. Ome of my best friends makes an awesome tater tot hotdish which is cream of mushroom soup, veggie crumbles (faux ground beef) and canned green beans all mixed together, topped with tater tots in a single layer and baked in the oven. My mom was famous for her chow mein hotdish and my grandma always made pizza hotdish. |

This was the solution: "Minnesota's most popular native food, Hotdish, is constructed on a base of canned cream of mushroom soup and canned vegetables. If you sit down to something that doesn't look like anything you've ever seen before, it's probably Hotdish" I thought it was cream of mushrooms and veggies only and just imagined you guys surviving on that stuff in the winter But yes, we have casseroles here and I'm glad to know that you can trick out a hotdish instead of just being soup and corn 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Ex-Moderator | You didn't ask about lefse or lutefisk, though.
Both very traditionally Minnesotan, but I believe they came here from Norway and since my family was German and Finnish we didn't partake. Lefse is actually quite good. It's like a thin potato pancake. I've only had it once. Lutefisk is basically spoiled, poisoned fish. I don't understand why anyone would eat it. |

I don't think I've ever actually made a hot dish. I live alone and that's the kind of thing that feeds many people. Plus it's lots of FAT. That said, it's really easy and really yummy. So it will still be delicious. |
