Intro: this is a song, that uh, theres alot of xmas songs out there, but not
Too many about hanukkah, so I wrote a song for all those nice little jewish
Kids who dont get to hear any hanukkah songs--here we go...

Put on your yalmulka, here comes hanukkah
Its so much fun-akkah to celebrate hanukkah,

Hanukkah is the festival of lights,
Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights.

When you feel like the only kid in town without a x-mas tree, heres a list of
People who are jewish, just like you and me:

David lee roth lights the menorrah,
So do james caan, kirk douglas, and the late dinah shore-ah

Guess who eats together at the karnickey deli,
Bowzer from sha-na-na, and arthur fonzerrelli.

Paul newmans half jewish; goldie hawns half too,
Put them together--what a fine lookin jew!

You dont need deck the halls or jingle bell rock
Cause you can spin the dreidl with captain kirk and mr. spock--both jewish!

Put on your yalmulka, its time for hanukkah,
The owner of the seattle super sonic-ahs celebrates hanukkah.

O.j. simpson-- not a jew!
But guess who is...hall of famer rod carew--(he converted!)

We got ann landers and her sister dear abby,
Harrison fords a quarter jewish--not too shabby!

Some people think that ebeneezer scrooge is,
Well, hes not, but guess who is:all three stooges.

So many jews are in show biz--
Tom cruise isnt, but I heard his agent is.

Tell your friend veronica, its time you celebrate hanukkah
I hope I get a harmonica, on this lovely, lovely hanukkah.

So drink your gin-and-tonic-ah, and smoke your mara-juanic-ah,
If you really, really wanna-kah, have a happy, happy, happy, happy
Hanukkah. happy hanukka!

I just heard this song today--Adam Sandler does a great job with it!

Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!

Yael (or Ariel), why does the menorah in the diaspora have more candles than that used in the ancient Temple?

I'll try and give you an explanation:

First of all, the seven-branched candelabrum used in the tabernacle of the temple was called Menorah. It was made entirely of solid gold and there were 7 wicks for the 7 days of the week .It was only lit by the Cohen Hagadol ( The highest priest ) at dusk and only olive oil was to be used. This was part of the daily temple tasks ( not once a year) and some say this was to keep "the eternal flame" in the temple reminiscent of the burning bush as seen by Moses.

On Chanukah , we use a Hanukiah a nine-branched cadelabrum : 8 + the "shamash" ( "the guard") because Chanukkah is observed for eight nights, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar.
Hanukkah", from the Hebrew word for "dedication" or "consecration", marks the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem after its desecration by the forces of Antiochus IV and commemorates the "miracle of the container of oil". According to the Talmud, at the re-dedication following the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Empire, there was only enough consecrated olive oil to fuel the eternal flame in the Temple for one day. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days, which was the length of time it took to press, prepare and consecrate fresh olive oil.

Another reason why the Hanukiah is different from the Menorah is because it is absolutely forbidden to reproduce any object identical of those used in the holy Temple ( Talmud Baveli, Rosh Hashana 24/72) .

I hope these explanations are satisfying enough ....

And Dan, isn't Florida where all the old Jews retire to? I'm sure they run the state.
