IMHO EVERYONE gives at least a little shit of what others think. (However, this does not include those on one substance or another, etc etc)

I care what people think to a certain point and then as long as my heart is right and I know the Truth I am satisfied and have no need of what others think.
Being different is allright :)It's nice to put on something that the world won't dare and take a look around.Wearing your bra and panties have been quite popular and I would rather wear clothes hee hee Hey, at least until you know.

I've always been controversial when i came online in 1998.
But...people get used to you, they see enough and read enough you become part of the family and blend in.

Over time what seemed controversial and flamey at the time, ends up being thought upon with laughter and giggles.

Flame wars seem serious at the time, but they end up just being silly and childish...god knows i've been involved in my fair share of flame wars of the years.

But i've always liked and respected controversial and independent people, not sheep.

If being controversial is a conscious decision, something you dare yourself to do, something you are thinking about (do I or don't I? be the "norm, or don't be?) then you are immediately acting upon some pre-conceived notion of what others would think. It's a pointless act.

If being controversial is just an accident of your state of being, then this question would never enter your mind.

Maybe the one's who are most genuinely different are the ones that avoid controversy, avoid the spotlight.

See I have trouble believing this. Would you walk down the street with tampons in your ears, bareass naked and be able to tell me you don't care what people think?

Put yourself in Jeffrey Jones's shoes. Pretty successful actor who is caught with kiddie porn. Don't tell me you don't give a rats ass what people think about you - I don't think anyone likes to be thought of as a pervert.

Who is Jeffrey Jones?

Hey, when it comes to asses it's a monkey's ass I don't give.

Now if u're talking about a rat's ass then yes, that's a slightly different matter.

I see what u're saying. Good point. But there's controversy and stupidity. Of course I wouldn't do any of these things because I'd have no reason to. U've got to talk realistically or why bother? This is not about walking down the street with tampons in your ears is it?

Okay, my example was a bit extreme - but it still pertains. Doesn't matter if there's a difference between controversy and stupidity. I'm asking if you would care what people thought if you walked down the street naked with tampons in your ears. The circumstances at this point don't matter at all.

Forgetting the fact that you would never do this - would you care what people thought if they saw you?

(Jeffrey Jones is an American actor, fairly well-known who was recently arrested for possession of child porn and forcing an underage boy to pose for naked photos, or something along those lines. If you were famous and did this, would you care what people thought?)

But Natsume, your examples are still extreme, and out of the question IF it's just not in that person's nature to do what you're describing. I would think you'd have to ask a person if their own true idiosyncrasies, habits, or usual actions would lead them to care what others thought. If the person isn't being true to themselves it's just a stunt. OR...

I could see your point if someone had, for example, lost a bet and had to do something silly like that to pay up.

Otherwise I'm like bkk on this one, I care when it comes to those who I love and/or respect. If I had illegal (or what I deem that MIGHT be immoral) tendencies I'd care what everybody else thought, but since I don't think I do, it matters not.

Did I explain that well?

Some here and on amp wouldnt-couldnt know/be genuine controversial if it crawled up their ass and died there..you cant "try" to be controversial, you just are. And believe me it shows when it's forced or not genuine, or because of anothers influence. And you have to be controversial in "real time" to even think what you are trying to put off in cyberspace is controversial. Some think being controversial is being one dimensional, idiotic and silly or overly obsesive online. Thats not controversial, that shows how naive and unoriginal you are.. How funny some people can be, thinking that they are controversial lol

I understand but I still don't agree. I don't think it is in our nature to not care what others think. This is why the emotion embarrassment exists.

I'll tone down my example and say if you were in the street and fell and slipped right into a huge puddle - if spectators started to laugh, how would you handle that? Not many would be able to avoid getting flustered and red-faced. That in itself is caring what others think right there.

I care about being controversial from time to time.

In many ways really..

I feel however that there's always a balance that i'd like to strike, i likw the response i get from time to time at work, from friends from peops in the pub, cos i do not tend to dress/have my hair/talk about issues as they expect me. If however it would become a dayjob to respond to everyone because i provoke them so much, then i could either change my environment or myself and would tone down a bit...
I feel pretty, that's enough
