Help...converting AVIs to MP4? i got an MP4 for x-mas...I can download songs but not avi files...it came with an avi converter but it sticks on 1%

Is there anybody here that actually KNOWS about this stuff?
this is what i am using to convert.. http://www.bestshareware....verter.htm it shows up on my MP4 player..but its not opening/playing.
Its an "Equip" 4GB touch screen. | |

Thanks pope.....i actually found a website related to MP4s & was able to download an avi converter which totally fixed my problem~~
