Surgery transplanted most of patient's face http://www.cnn.com/2008/H...index.html
This is fantastic news for this lady. ...Which bares to mind this question: Upon your death, how much and what would you be willing to donate of your body to living recipients and or to science? I'll spare you the details, but I viewed/worked with 3 cadavers that donated themselves to science. Its a very strict situation in Med teaching programs. We are taught to first respect the individuals... the slightest slight would have you ejected from the room and the program. I learned so much from the experience. After 2 years the individual and all parts are returned to (in this case, UCI) and are interred it whatever fashion they had requested. For me all viable parts ( corneas, liver, heart, kidneys, skin) are donatable. With just one exception, reproductive organs. I personally believe life begins at conception. So that one thing is out... the rest, use to the floor boards. and you? | |
