The Dark Knight.....

I finally got around 2 watching the Dark Knight last night.....I did not even like the movie. I don't get the hype of this movie or Heath's performance. The movie "Batman Begins" was a much better movie.

I thought Jack Nicholson was better as the Joker in the 1989 movie.

yup

wasn't "grab me by the balls" material as much as I expected/hoped it to be.

I also don't get why playing the joker would be so mentally draining ...

batman begins is the only one i like. i'm not planning to watch dark knight. i dislike movies that feature dark, murky special effects, a closed set and lots of dark filming. batman begins features kickass world scenery. i love that about a movie.

ya'll are nuts.
coming from a LIFELONG comic fan, and even beyond that a movie fan, TDK is the best comic based movie ever made. PERIOD. as a matter of fact the fact that the top 2 both came out this year, (the other being Iron Man) is somewhat startling.

back to TDK.

considering that most people don't even really have a decent idea of what the "Batman" character is even supposed to be like, i can somewhat understand the confusion. most people have some kind of hybrid recognition with the 60's tv series and the 80's/90's movies. and where the Burton helmed flicks were OKAY (at best), they didn't really delve into the psychiatry that makes a man dress up like a bat and spend his nights in search of justice. Sure the Burton films looked interesting, but they weren't deep, introspective, or in hindsight that good compared to the Nolan flicks.

What Nolan has done, taking a comic based series and taking the "comic" out of it and making it a drama that happens to be about comic book characters, is nothing less than amazing.

comparing Nicholson (who was just himself in makeup) to Ledger is an insult. Ledger BECAME the Joker.

TDK could've been another hour longer, and i would've sat there. gladly.

I know we disagree on everything else, but this I totally agree with you on! This movie wasn't a "Batman" movie - it was a movie about "The Dark Knight". Batman is one of the most complex of the classic comicbook characters and this movie finally did him justice.
And Heath - he channeled himself into a completely different person. His Joker was absolutely brilliant. I wish we could have seen more.

His character was based on the Joker from these sources:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w..._Halloween

I highly recommend them!

Like anything brilliant, when enough time has passed, it will become en vogue to trash it.

Yet even among those that like to trash the film it is usually because elements were not what they wanted to see, not that the movie is poorly crafted. There's a big difference.

I really liked the movie on the second viewing.

On the first it was a bit messy, but well done.
I thought Heath's joker was far better than Jack's joker.

But I liked Batman Begins more.

I would not say that it was trash. The movie was fairly entertaining. Expectations and hype can destroy a movie before u see it. I find it interesting that I had zero expectations 4 Batman Begins, and I LOVED it. I had some reasonable expectations of the Dark Knight based on the hype around Heath's performance. I thought Healh did a good job playing a nut case that was the Joker but it was more hype than reality 4 me.

I didn't like it the first time I saw it, but the second time I was prepared because I knew how long it was and all.
The second time...WOW. That movie is so fucking good. Batman is my favorite comic book character EVER, and this made me like him. I love the dynamics between him and his enemies, like how he doesn't kill his enemies because he needs them to point the finger at so he doesn't seem as crazy for dressing up as a bat, if that makes sense.

Well firstly people on here will diss it 2 the shit campy tim burton movie...only cuz Prince did the soundtrack 4 it....but thats fanatics for ya lol Firstly I loved heath ledgers potrayal of the joker more than jacks...why?...ill tell ya... The batman comics are dark and so is the character of the joker, That was until that shit 70s batman show (pow biff bang) and it all went tits up. The joker in The Dark Knight is far more creepy and reliastic and heaths performance will go down as the best so far (if u like it or not) No cheesey jokes just plain unperdictable, sarcasm and fear. Loved the last scene with him and batman were hes swinging upside down and says "u and I are destined to do this forever" and in the interview room "U are a freak like me and when they have no more use for u theyll cast u out" there was a great connection in those 2 scenes between them legendary characters. It is by far the bets batman film and it has nothing 2 do with heaths passing cuz chris nolan is a brilliant director and always picks the least obvious...but best choices (for instance Gary Oldman as Lt Gordan..he usually plays a villian) infact I watched the Tim Burton film yesterday 2 compare and its just so empty, wooden and gimmicky compared 2 the new ones, You feel for the characters more (even the smaller characters like lucius fox) as they are better devolped, and its far more believable no Batmobile just an amazing fucking tank/car called the tumbler

Bring on Batman 3!

I thought it was a great movie...all the performances (except Maggie Gyllenhaal...barf) were good, but Ledger stole the show as Joker...and after having watched the movie 4 times since I bought the movie (on Blu-ray its gorgeous!), it gets better each time.....

co-sign. it seems that all of a sudden it's en vogue to diss this movie.
i remember it getting very good reviews on here when it was in theaters.
what happened? lol. i like the movie, although i have to agree that the
previous one was even better. heath's joker is much better than jack's.
although they are probably way too different to compare since they both
came from such different angles at the character. i think bale is a far
better batman than michael keaton as well. anyway, love both films and
i can't wait for the third one.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

'en vogue' (I thought 'swaffelen' was the word of the year??) or not, I just thought the movie was too long. Yes, Ledger was good, Bale was mediocre at most. The movie was not bad, and a lot of the reviews were deserved.....but, the movie loses pace in the middle, when all this so-called dark shit comes up, which seems to be en vogue nowadays. It wasn't so compelling to non-DC Comics geeks.
Again, Ledger was good.....but, if Heath would not have been dead, his performance would not have been hyped as much as it is right now. I'd be pissed if he get nominated for an Oscar!

i liked the movie alot when i didnt compare it 2 the batman movies cuz i really do like jack version of the joker better cuz of his prince connection they both represent different sides 2 the joker heath was more dark and killer while jack was really comical so i like both movies but its not as good as its been hyped and i dont c how it sold so much its a rip off of spiderman in many ways
