If that happens even once, you will think twice about keeping your profile public. Considering the amount of personal info people can glean because many are naive about what they put out there. AND most don't actually say why they want to be friends with you, like you do.

I keep my myspace on private because I teach teens and preteens! I don't want my students telling me what I did last week

I set Facebook and Myspace on private. I figure if you want to know bad enough you will request a friendship, and if not, then I guess you really didn't need to know me in the first place.
