Military People..I know there are some here.. I have a question. My Dad was once in the military, and while in the military he got some War Bonds. It is believed that his first wife, not my Mother, kept them when they got divorced, and he has been trying to find out how to possibly get them reissued. Since he is now 63,he is figuring that they are probably worth a good amount now,and he could use the money,so does anyone in the military or knowledge of the military know how I might go about helping him get the bonds reissued? ...It may be useful http://www.unclaimed.com/..._bonds.htm Thanks! I'm just not sure if War Bonds are the same thing as a Savings Bond, or if they are some other kind of special bond. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

Try contacting a brokerage house. They should be able to tell you if they are worth anything.

He would need the serial numbers off the bonds that were issued. Hopefully but it sounds doubtful that he knows them. The first wife may have cashed them in already or just lost them. He would def. need proof and proof are those serial numbers. I take it that the first wife and him are not on speaking or negative terms

...It may be useful http://www.unclaimed.com/..._bonds.htm This is a fee for service site. You could start at your local bank or as Vendetta said, a brokerage house. I know there is an IRS site that will give you access to savings bonds ~ maybe for these too. I'd spend a little time researching that site. Maybe something in the defense department or the treasury departemnt will have information. Music is the language of the spirit. No they are not on speaking terms. She took the bonds because she believed he had her diploma. I don't think that she would be able to cash them in,if she did'nt have a legal right to them. I would think since they were issued to him during his service, she would have had to have him there to cash them. I would'nt see why he would need to know the serial numbers. I would think that they should have record of them being sold to him. He said that when he first started getting them, the money was taken straight out of his pay during boot camp. I paid for the site above, cause I really just want to make sure that he gets the money for these.
