Roasting up some christmas duck!

I'm having some old friends over to nibble and putter around the house. We're just going to be lazy and lollygag and sip proseco and brandy. I've pulled out a bunch of Christmas movies: a mix of contemporary films (whatever was made in the last 5 years or so), classic black & whites (eg. It's A Wonderful Life, The Little Princess, White Christmas, Miracle at 34th Street, the Scrooge one, Dagwood and Blondie, the Andy Hardy ones starring Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland), and awesome vintage cartoons from the 70's (Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, Charlie Brown Christmas, etc.). I have a stack of Nepalese shawls that I'm using as lap blankets, and a basket of guest house slippers so folks can just kick off their shoes and get cozy fallinluv coffee fallinluv

We are having a BBQ. My dad's uncle and his family will be in town, they are flying in from Stockholm the day before. As my parents and my sister and her family are avoiding Christmas altogether by going away camping (and not together either) rolleyes it falls on us to host.
I don't care, I cancelled Christmas this year anyway, such a relief! whew

Wales!?! Wow!

I think the plan is we'll be in Cleveland on Christmas eve and morning (my in-laws will be there), then maybe drive up to Detroit for Christmas night (where my side of the family will all be visiting my sister's new house). And somewhere in this mix, I'm committed to destroying baking a buttermilk pie. nod

I'm staying in NYC, and have no definite plans as of right now. I may go to a friend's house on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day is still undecided. Another close friend will also be staying in NYC so we may hang out (I don't know what we'll do--maybe watch movies and try to order delivery). If she has other plans I will either stay home by myself and clean, watch movies, relax or there is a possibility I will go to the same xmas eve friend's house.

Christmas by oneself in New York is actually kind of nice. There are a fair number of restaurants open, there is a large Jewish population who don't celebrate Christmas as well as a lot of people who can't/don't leave the city to visit their family, so there are always people out. shrug

I will go visit my parents the first weekend of January as a surprise 'gift' for my Grandmother, who is celebrating her 80th birthday.

YOu should consider letting a Asian American/Welsh man couple crash with you one Christmas.
We could visit some gallerias and I could finally be persuaded as to why Jackson Pullock isn't a hack. woot!

hmmm Do you realize how small Manhattan apartments are? Two people can't even pass by one another in my kitchen. lol Not to mention I live in a fourth floor walk up (that's 3 flights of stairs--no elevator). BUT. If you're really serious about visiting New York sometime orgnote me and we can discuss. (I also have a strict 'no sex for the guests' rule--I don't want to hear all that from the next room! smile ).

Mach

I usually wake around 5 am after getting home from midnight Mass around 2:30 am
build a fire in the fireplace and light all the candles
make coffee and put on some quiet music
light up the yule tree
do a small private ritual
spend the early morning lovin on my man

Teens will wake - whenever

gifts - then we cook a huge breakfast

call our parents and older children/grands

laze around by the fire

that gets me through around noon perhaps

after that ... open to the flow of the day

often times we go visit our parents
