it'd be nice to have some solid, non-campy stories where gay folk don't end up martyred.

Or stereo-typed. It's so easy to go for the screaming queens, but I love those stories where it is just a part of the entire story, not the actual theme, with just some young boys running around shirtless all of the time.

I can't believe I found my favorite scene from my favorite gay movie PARTING GLANCES. This part makes me cry every damn time.
Yeah, that's Steve Buscemi. I followed his career ever since that movie.

I never seen that! It just made me cry just from this little clip cry

I just love movies. I quit noticing whether they were "gay" movies a log time ago, because I'd often end up disappointed in how shitty they were or just unable to relate.

ok, I remember another:

I sort of liked the Velocity of Gary.

But only because the one/two combo of Thomas Jane and Selma Hayak made great eye candy.

The story line was really downbeat. It started bad and just kept getting worse. lol

I think with a bit better focus the movie could have been a great movie, but it was one of those near-misses that you sort of remember. Thomas Jane played a very convincing gay man.

most gay movies are indeed, as many have said, horrible. some arthouse
flicks are nice though. two movies that i remember i liked are:

drole de felix
l'école de la chair
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

You're just making up words from various consonants and vowels to sound artsy fartsy aren't you?

My absolute favorite by far is "The Crying Game"

Then,

The Hunger
Love! Valor! Compassion!
Adventures of Two Girls In Love
De-Lovely
Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert
Paris Is Burning
Henry and June
Making Love
Saving Face

walk on water was an interesting one, less a gay theme than the nazi war criminal story

Wait...in retrospect...my second favorite is The Crying Game:

To this day, some 20+ years later, I LIVE for "PARIS IS BURNING"!

I used to go see Willie Ninja vogue at the Warsaw Ballroom when I was TOTALLY underage, playing fag hag and muse to my illustration teacher at college. He used to take me into Warsaw on South Beach and we would vogue all night long. This was back when Miami Beach was dingy and creative and surreal like a Fellini movie...hot men running around the club bronzed and shirtless with Venetian carnival masks on and midgets and folks bringing monkeys into the club and shit lol

I've seen Drôle de Félix, which was okay, like my French entry it is something of a non-story, but at least nicely told.
We'l have to see L'École de la chair together now, as it seems I would like it, by the synopsis.

lol, you had to put the punctuation in, didn't you. you're such an antfucker
sometimes.

and you're absolutely right, drole de felix is just so so, but l'ecole de la
chair is a very good film. isabelle huppert is in it, what else can i say!
haven't been able to find it on dvd yet, sadly. but i'm sure it will get a
release sometime soon, just like i've been hoping les rouseaux sauvages will
get a dvd release over here.

Is Drole de Felix the one where the guy is taking a trip and meeting up with his lover later. He meets different characters along the way?

I loved that movie. Very sweet.

I love Paris is Burning!!! Two of Madonna's dancers (from the Blonde Ambition tour) are in that. They were babies.

I'd forgotten about the Hunger, which is one of my favorite movies. Making Love was good too. Not a Kate Jackson fan at all but I loved Harry Hamlin in that one.

I used to like watching gay movies up until the movie Birdcage and Jeffery. Once I saw In and Out come out, I knew the genre had gone mainstream.

Movies I liked...

Torch SOng Trilogy
Long Time Companion
Beautiful Thing
Sum of us

I think the last movie I saw that had a gay theme was "Not another gay movie". While there was some scenes that were funny, most of it made me cringe. I almost feel the same way when I see gay reality TV like Queer Eye.

About 98% of gay movies have such unflattering titles which makes me not even care what they might be about.
