Of course I have all the 7 movies I recommended on DVD, Herman. So when you come visit me here in gay Copenhagen, we can watch them together while drinking camomile tea and eating cake. Doesn't that just sound cozy and nice? FREE THE 29 MAY 1993 COME CONFIGURATION!

I have lots of reservations about gay movies, especially the ones that got made in the '90s. It sometimes seemed that in order for a movie to get made back then, they had to be about silly flamers whose only purpose was to entertain the straights (The Birdcage), ugly twinks coming out and falling in love (Trick), or we had to die horrible deaths (pretty much everything else). There ar some great exceptions, though, like the ones mentioned. Some of my favorites are Torch Song Trilogy, Beautiful Thing, Angels in America, My Beautiful Laundrette (very sexy), and Priest. Others that I really like that I don't think have been mentioned are Longtime Companion, Head On, and Parting Glances.

Ex-Moderator | I can never remember the name of the movie, but there was a movie about a man living with AIDS who was throwing a "death" party. He'd essentially decided to commit suicide before the worst of the disease got to him. It was amazingly beautifully done. Anyone know the name of that one?
I remember loving the innocence of The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love but it's been years and years since I've seen it. Not sure if it would hold up over time. |

I loved that one too. Also, that remminded me: Kissing Jessica Stein is another good one.

I´ll add two Almodovar movies. Could be a few more from him, of course, but these are his gayest, I think and I like them both a lot

Rocky Horror Picture Show?
There's no rule that says great movies have to be high brow. The new Star Wars Trilogy set gay movies back 10 years. Forcing Anakin into that wooden hetero relationship when he clearly wants to cross swords with Obi Wan. Repressing the gay nearly destroyed the galaxy until his twink son came along and set him straight (or is it gay?). Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Good one! Again, a movie with an actual story. The shock effect was GREAT. It was the movie where I fell in love with Forest Whitaker as an actor. That movie was awesome!!! I remember vividly how at the end, during the "reveal" I guffawed out loud in the theater... man, folks were staring... A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon

Oooh, I had that with Les Roseaux Sauvages, I fell in love (again, acting presence only) with Élodie Bouchez. She plays in a lot of movies I like. Okay, lots of half-naked young men quite helped the case. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...eds_(film) Élodie Bouchez; [Edited 12/14/08 11:51am]

I didn't think To Wong Foo was funny at all. I said it was offensive and its full of stereotypes (eg Lipses, namazika doing a jump shot, but it has its funny moments eg "Vita you speak honky, translate" And the original Birdcage La Cage Aux Folles (France 1978) is much better too. I did like my beautiful laundrette, but its too gritty and reminescent how bad 1980s Britain was to poor people So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Parting Glances - my all time favorite.
Beautiful Thing - oh that was so me as a kid. Torchsong Trilogy Billy Elliott Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss - With Jack from Will and Grace The Crying Game To Wong Foo - Just to see John Leguizamo The Sum of Us - A gay Russell Crowe, yes!!!! It’s funny ‘cause this movie is kinda like the relationship between my dad and I. Get Real - I also love the "fat" girl. My Beautiful Launderette All Pedro Almodovar and John Waters’ films, of course. The Trip - was okay. I just loved one of the guys in it. I had a total crush on him. Urbania - was really great. Angels in America - amazing. Although I saw all 8 hours of the play and loved it. It’s My Party - I cry like a little girl. Gregory Harrison, gorgeous. Adventures of Two Girls in Love - very cute. One of the girls was on the L Word. She was sooo young there. Bound - FUCK YES!!!!! Plata Quemada - HOT. Gangsters in love Broken Sky I Think I Do - Silly but fun. Hustler White - I loved it just because it was sooo out there. Shiner - Crazy!!! ...and so many other foreign gay films that I can't even start to mention. There are sooooo many. And yes I’ve seen them all. Some were AWFUL and some were very good. Just like straight movies. MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I can't believe I found my favorite scene from my favorite gay movie PARTING GLANCES. This part makes me cry every damn time.
Yeah, that's Steve Buscemi. I followed his career ever since that movie. [Edited 12/14/08 12:35pm] MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! Urbania
Orlando (not so gay as inexplicably transsexual ) Torch Song Trilogy Philadelphia Paris is Burning (Actually, I love the ballroom aesthetic in this, but the alienation that underlies the culture is very disturbing) I'm also counting the days 'til someone adapts James Baldwin's Giovanni's Room for the screen. ...And, yeah, it'd be nice to have some solid, non-campy stories where gay folk don't end up martyred. Or stereo-typed. It's so easy to go for the screaming queens, but I love those stories where it is just a part of the entire story, not the actual theme, with just some young boys running around shirtless all of the time.
