When's the last time anybody ever shopped at a...

K-MART.

I went there once just out of curiousity earlier this year.
a large number of the shelves were not stacked properly. (some shelves half empty, some shelves poorly faced).

The 'cafe' was old and dated and downright depressing.

It seemed small, dingy, and poorly lit.

But then I got to thinking. When's the last time I went to ANY of the old stores? Sears? Macys? I don't recall.

I think K-MART is going under.

I LOVE K-mart and the one I visit is going out of business so I am buying stuff on sale.

It is never busy and you can NEVER find a sales clerk to help you, a shoplifters dream come true if you into that type of thing!!

Sad because this one was just built in 2001 and is really nice!!!

The last time I was in one was when several were being closed down here in the Twin Cities about 5-6 years ago, maybe more. I bought a set of leopard print luggage that I still use to this day. One of the handles on the zippers has fallen off and it's getting a bit dingy on the outside after so many trips, though they still work fine. I got the set for 80% off.

They took out a huge ass loan to try and get out of bankrupcy or some shit.

They were supposed to revamp their business model and attract more customers. I believe they also merged with Sears which meant some of the Sears equipment (craftsman, etc.) would end up in their stores and maybe boost interest.

Sears branding is also in peril as it's long ago become unfashionable as a 'mall store'.

I think I'm going to visit Sears and see what they're like.

The problem with K-Mart is they probably can't even re-brand and try to upscale.

Target would PWN them. Target became the Walmart trendy white folks could shop at.

We used to say, "I'm going shopping at Tar-zjehhhhh" in a posh voice lol

I seriously can't see K-mart competing with Target. Target is now like a high end grocery store married to an Ikea. You can't compete with that.

But then again, I never envisioned a day that K-Mart would get so totally PNWED by Walmart.

What was the store like?

Busy?

Well lit? Stocked?

I seriously almost thought I was walking through an 'overstock' department store selling discontinued goods. It was almost sad.

I wish more people would understand the damage Walmart is doing to other businesses.

I understand that the "consumer" benefits in the sense that they have a choice and they choose to go to the place that can undersell others. And it doesn't matter what you're looking for--it will almost always be in a Walmart. But it's still sad to see the power and influence they have over communities now.

Those fuckers tried to drain more estuaries and mangrove swamps in St. Pete to build one of their Super Centers (they're already all over the place in Tampa). It's been proven the mangrove swamps are the best defense against storm surges, erosion, and polluted water (they act sort of as a big lung or liver for the bay), but Walmart took none of this into consideration when chosing the site.
Luckily a grass roots movement managed to defeat Walmart---but overall, I think Walmart wins more than it loses.

You know what. I think I'm going to look for wrapping paper there.

I feel sorry for them. lol

It's bad enough people are already losing their jobs. K-mart going under could see a hell of a lot more people losing their jobs.

K-mart is the kind of place that the rabble amongst Wal-Mart shoppers turn their noses up at....Target is my happy place.....love I heart Target...

...and as a former employee of Macy's, I still frequent the One Day Sales.....

Oh I understand ...

I have not stepped foot in a walmart for almost 3 yrs now

confused

They are building a new shitcenter about 19 miles from here - they destroyed an important hillside that kept mountian rainoff from flooding the small town under it - took them 2 yrs in court but yeah "they won" and tore down the mountianside to build another shitcenter though there is ANOTHER ONE just 6 miles down the road rolleyes that new center will most likely put the small family owned hardware, drug stoor and grocery in that beautiful little town outta business

i remember the days when target was one of the cheapest places to shop at. my folks always went there for my school clothes and such back in the day. yeah, they're pretty expensive now in comparison to way back when. it's kinna like they're still cheap, but not really cheap. it's fairly reasonably priced and the stores are way nicer than k-mart. all the k-marts i've ever been to are almost like a walmart nightmare.

target is like crack. i've gotten a lotta cool shit from there. giggle

I can NOT STAND Walmart. I will go in there for toilet paper and napkins because they're pretty inexpensive, but then I have to get the hell outta dodge. I hate the employees and the customers.
