what are you reading? i've been ill for a while now and i'm stuck in the house for 3/4 of the week.
lots of time to catch up on reading books that have been knocking about the shelves for some time now. my attention span is rather short cuz i fall asleep half the time or get a bit irritated with reading the same book for too long, so i'm currently in the middle of 5 books, lol. herman hesse's siddharta. very very good, can't believe i didn't read this before. lovely. usually not into this kind of stuff, but this is very non-inyourface. jarrod diamond's guns germs and steel. i love these kind of boring longwinded nonfiction books. i thought diamond's "collapse" was an incredible book and this one is very good too. dr oz's you staying young. i know, i know. i like reading health/nutrition books anyway. this one is rather basic, but it's nice and it's got a lot of facts and interesting info but the drawings, my god the drawings are really too stupid. i like the devilishly pictured "free radicals" though, lol. tristram stuart's bloodless revolution. a book about vegetarianism and it's first dabblings in europe. this book is all over the place, giving you more anecdotes and curious facts than an hour spree of blindfolded wikipedia madness. it's nice though, for what it is. anywho. what the *** are you reading? and/or what books are you planning on getting for xmas? anything on your wishlist? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

was it as good as it's said to be? i'm really looking forward to reading that one day. I thought it was excellent. I've never read Yates before, so I was interested for that reason too. The book is incredibly readable; I breezed through it really quickly. There's definitely a lot of sadness hanging over the book, which is odd, considering how fast-paced it is.

Yes, it is. I think he's written things for and about Tori as well as based characters on her. (Incidentally, this drives me mad, as I'm not a fan of hers. lol.) He writes all KINDS of things. Graphic novels and regular novels and short stories and screenplays, for adults, for kids and for everyone in between. A good start would be one of his short story/essay/whatever collections Smoke and Mirrors. That contains the first story I ever read by him thatis to this day my favorite. |

There are a lot of books, some of them made into very good movies, think of: 'Das Leben der Anderen', 'Der Untergang' and now 'Der Baader-Meinhof Komplex'. If you don't wanna read, just see the film: These were events that were so German at the time, I am glad that they have decided to make good German quality movies about them. Meanwhile I fear for the amount of suckiness Hollywood is going to provide us with, with Brian Singer's 'Valkyrie', Tom Cruise as Graf Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg..... anywayz, back to books..... The English translation itself was really well done, and I found myself really drawn to it. The book works both on a literal level as well as allegory. . [Edited 12/9/08 7:33am]

The book works both on a literal level as well as allegory. i know. reading a book in it's original language is always more powerfull. luckily most dutch, especially those near the border are good at german so no problem there. but what i really want is to be able to read Bulgakov's Master & Margarita in original russian, lol. it's going to be a lifetime project though. i've enlisted in russian classes at a friend's university language programm but had to drop out because my ex fucked me over and i couldn't pay the $600,- fee anymore. damnit. but i should get back into it, i want to anyway. plus i've been home schooling on french since i'm off sick from work since a few months now. mainly to read moliere and proust in french. god, my life is boring. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

the Qur'an...
a co-worker who is of course Muslim, invited me to come to the Masjid with them during Ramadan one year(2006) i returned this year and attended near the end and also at Eid ( a holiday that marks the end of Ramadan)and this year i was given (as a gift) a copy of the Qur'an,which i promised her i would read. (it was another sister who gave me the book.)i would not have taken it from her as a gift and NOT read it!! i'm in chapter 3 now,it's been slow reading...even for an english translation...i read for an hour or two every sunday... my co-worker is a convert, and sometimes finds it hard..even though they will call each other brother and sister, i noticed that there was a difference when it came to her..but at least this time she seemed less alone..they are warming up to her i was told by her and her husband, that 3 of the brothers had asked them if i was looking for a husband!! i read things people don't understand sometimes..like encyclopedias...just be cause i haven't read it before... 'why y'all trying to say goodbye? I didn't go anywhere, I'm right here, im all around you,always..'
in a line from my dream, I heard a voice and saw a silhouette in a chair..
