I'd love to have naturally curly hair so I had the option of wearing it curly or straight.

My hair is straight, straight, STRAIGHT and will not hold a curl for anything.

the grass is always greener my friend....

Imma saying!!! It takes me forever to get the look Carrie has naturally, I love curls though..... but only in the summer.

What?! 3 hours?! OK...I would like some education on african american hair. I apparently don't know jack.

lol

Well, try not to think of it as "African American" because AA people have all different types of textures, so I go by texture... for example.

1. Course hair- is usually heavy long as hell very straight/stray, and thick. This type of hair never gets split ends and never holds a curl if its straight, or stays straight if has a wave pattern. To color this hair it usually takes multiple processes w/ a 40 volume developer. Asian hair or grey hair is usually course.

2. Medium hair- is well, medium, not tricky as fine hair, not as hard to do as course hair.

3. Fine hair- splits, 40 volume developers with disintegrate it into mush. Fine hair always seems to never grow because its always breaking off and chipping away. Fine hair is always in your hair brush instead of your head. Fine hair hold static very well. sigh Most nappy (overly curly) hair is usually fine, very soft and super delicate.

most people have at least 5 different textures and colors in their own head. So each head can differ with density and texture. whew

Are you a cosmotologist or do you just know your shit? Cuz I have a question, if u don't mind.

painted knows her stuff nod .. cause she said my hair type to the perfect 'T' up there when she said..'Course hair - stays straight if has a wave pattern' - that's me - my hair will not stay straight cause of my waves...

I used to be, I was a certified master colorist with Wella and worked in an Inter coiffure certified salon as a cosmetologist for 5 years. Had to ditch it when I had more kids. Miss the clients and the team... we kicked ass. They specialized in relaxed hair care. I was the colorist, it was fun. I had free product by the bucketfuls that I had fun with all the time, changed my hair color bi-weekly for two years. lol

OK... I see you highlighted the fine hair... hair cuticles begin to melt at 150 degrees, so try not to set your irons past 4 (if settings range from 1-10), that was a golden rule in our salon... unfortunately, my stove and irons need to be on setting 7 to do anything, so I compensate for the heat damage by doing "protein" (Aphogee, stinks but it works wonders) conditioners bi-monthly to improve elasticity, and use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners for relaxer/damaged hair even though I do not have a relaxer. smile

Not without tons of TLC... until I learned about hair care at the salon, I always had a tough time growing it past the tops of my shoulders.

Chile, I have fine hair which is why I prefer weave. It prevents me from having to deal with my hair cuz EVERYTHING damages it. I'm just glad that after all these years I still have a full head of relatively healthy hair. But dealing with it every day??? Nah, not for me. shake

You and JasmineFire live in very humid regions of the country as well. eek

Jasmine needs to press AND curl, she can not only straighten....just like I have to.

bawl i don't want to press and curl!! When i wash it out, parts of my hair don't curl back up. pout

eek OK, sounds like overprocessing... too much heat. Um, well, maybe you can just use a steam flat iron or use cooler combs/irons. Or blow dry. (3 hours and a stiff sore wrist) neutral

Ionic Japanese straightening! Its the best! I've pressed, flat ironed, and relaxed - nuthing is better and good to ur hair like Japanese hair straightening! I'm mixed (Black & Hispanic) and it works great! You can literally let it air dry after and its straight! If you want body, just roller set your hair and dry under the dryer.
