WIC is a education/nutrition program for low income women. They get FREE formula, cereal, peanut butter, milk and cheese for themselves while they are pregnant and breast feeding and for their children up to 5 years old unless they have specific health issues or are special needs then they can get it for a few years past the age of 5. WIC was a life saver for me with my kids. She is on WIC it's still not enough. :whofarted; Explain that to me please. WIC covers baby formula. My cousin had 2 kids and WIC pretty much fed them from the crib up. So why didn't she have enough???? ...is she selling WIC coupons for beer? I think that an investigation is in order. You only get so much and she's got two kids. Plus isn't WIC run on the state level? It could be different in every state. When I saw her on the Today show, they spoke to some official who said all social services are being cut back including WIC due to the economy. [Edited 12/10/08 19:15pm]

FMQB.com In Brief – December 3, 2008 DJ Clem Offers Mom Free Baby Formula Bubba the Love Sponge has offered to purchase baby formula for La’Damian Barton, the five-month-old son of Tampa resident Jeri Ross, who is hospitalized with water intoxication following his mother’s dilution of his baby formula. Bubba announced that if Jeri Ross will come to his studio to undergo a doctor-administered drug test and the test is determined to be negative, that he will pay for the baby’s formula for as long as it is needed. In addition, if his mother’s drug test is negative, Bubba has also offered to pay for La’Damian Barton’s tuition at a Florida state college. The story has made national headlines because Ms. Ross unknowingly almost killed her son by diluting the formula with water to make it last longer, due to its expense. Bubba the Love Sponge is heard live on WHPT-FM/Tampa and WFYV-FM/Jacksonville.

WIC Food Package - Maximum Monthly Allowances HERE Well, I don't know nuthin' 'bout feedin' no babies so I don't know if that's enough formula for a baby or two, cuz it looks like the older one is on formula too. But 403 ozs doesn't seem like a lot for a whole month. [Edited 12/10/08 20:11pm]

It's been a looooong time since my wife & I had to deal with formula...but I remember that a newborn takes about 8 bottles a day, but they only drink 2 or 3 ounces. By the time they're 3 or 4 months old, they're down to about 4 bottles a day, but about 4 ounces. As they get older, you supplement with juice and baby food and milk. SCNDLS...all I'm saying is that WIC should be enough. If this woman is running out, then she's either wasting it, mismanaging it, or selling her coupons. Formula is VERY expensive, and let me tell you, I wished I could've had some help from the government with that (and the diapers). You don't know if she qualifies for the maximum amount or if she's splitting what she gets with the other kid. She was on the Today show, explained her situation, was apologetic and I saw someone explain that WIC isn't always enough and they are cutting back. So why sit up here judging and criticizing her when you don't know the full details.

They said that on the Today Show too and I couldn't believe it. But I remember when Katrina happened I went and bought baby formula to donate to some local organization and I spent several hundred dollars for just a couple cases.

[Edited 12/11/08 13:00pm] I agree. Some women don't like doing it, but it's MUCH better than watering down your baby's milk. surviving on the thought of loving you, it's just like the water

[Edited 12/11/08 13:00pm] not every body can and some, after starting , for one reason or another, cant continue (illness, lack of supply, work commitments etc) ive had friends who could feed one child, but had problems with another child. i have also had a friend who couldnt breast feed her first child, but was able to with her second. when i went back to work, i tried expressing in my break. but 15 minutes doesnt give u enough time (plus the fact i didnt have a lock on the door didnt worry me, but could have shocked a few work mates ) therefore i put my son on formula while he was in care. he was still breast fed morning and night. and as he was on solids, it was only 1 or 2 bottles per day. [Edited 12/11/08 13:49pm] seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

[Edited 12/11/08 13:49pm] To breastfeed or not is a very personal decision and folks need to stop judging others cuz they don't do what THEY think is best. There may be extenuating circumstances because as you said there are MANY reasons why a woman can't or doesn't breastfeed. Regardless, it's each woman's choice to do what she deems best for herself and her family. [Edited 12/11/08 13:54pm]
