that baby looks like he needs more food and milk anyhow. if she gets wic, she can probably get food coupons and she probably needs to get some self-esteem, so she can make some meals instead of handing bottles for food. THE B EST BE YOURSELF AS LONG AS YOUR SELF ISNT A DYCK[/r]

It's not just expensive--it's not good for Children. Sure, it keeps them alive, but they really need breast milk. Most women can breastfeed, and they are incredibly lucky, but that sadly isn't the case for everyone, and formula is the only other option for those without a choice.

I was watching Inside Edition last night, and I heard this story about a Mom trying to save on the cost of baby formula, and she would dilute the formula with extra water..and almost killed the baby! Please, pass this on if you know someone who does this. From Inside Edition website: Jeri Moss believed she could save a few dollars by making her son's baby formula go further by watering it down. However, the money-saving measure almost cost her adorable baby his life. Moss never even dreamed she was putting her beloved child at risk. But the young mother of two learned a little known medical fact the hard way. Too much water can be dangerous for an infant by causing sodium levels in the blood to drop. Moss's five-month-old son La'damian had a seizure and stopped breathing as a result. He was rushed to the hospital near his home in Tampa, Florida. The distraught mother told doctors she put two scoops of formula in ten ounces of water. Experts say she should have used more than twice that amount of formula. Dr. James Orlowski is Chief of Pediatrics at University Community Hospital in Tampa, where the infant was treated. He told INSIDE EDITION, "It seems that every time the economy goes sour one of the things that people do is try to stretch out the formula." He continued, talking about how he treated Moss's infant son. "We gave the baby concentrate electrolytes solution to bring the sodium up enough to stop the baby from seizing." La'damian is now out of the hospital and recovering back home with his relieved mom. Health authorities are warning other hard-up parents: don't be tempted to water down your little one's baby formula. This is a very sad story. If you can't afford the formula, there are programs that can help..like WIC, they will give you free formula. And as for Imago's comment, yes breast milk is best, but some women can't produce enough to feed their children. So formula ends up working best. That would be my solution but who am I to judge her when I do not know her situation. I do not have kids of my own so I try not to tell ppl what to do with their kids. Looking at her, doesn't look like there is much of her. I have seen the price of formula at the store and I was shocked considering how much diapers cost. Breast feeding is always best but I have known some ppl who could not do it for various reasons. sometimes it just doesn't work out..mine would have starved.. 'why y'all trying to say goodbye? any californians, remember the story about a year ago when a mom trying to win a "wii" from a contest on a radio station, drank enough water to die from water poisoning? the deal was who ever can drink the most water without going pee, won the "wii" true story, the 2 disc jockies were charged with involuntary man-slaughter, because someone called in to warn them, and they continued on...then later on in the evening the lady ended up in the hospitol and eventualy died!

JustErin said: tane1976 said: I am blaming the mother because she failed to provide the necessities of life to her baby and she gave it a bad name, and she watered down milk formula. In New Zealand she would be charged with child abuse and she would be banned from having children.
Its also clearly obvious she has little education and is unemployed, and therefore provides a poor role model to her children. Whats up with that nappy ass hair. She can't even wear clean clothes. When I say these people, I mean uneducated, young solo mothers who can not provide for children, nothing racial but you will agree a lot of these women are black or latino. But there are plenty of white women who are just as bad.To me when you bring children into the world you devote your life to them. The fact shes malnourished may at least suggest she cares for them a bit more than some, although she looks like she wants her next snort of cocaine New Zealand has the legal right to BAN people from having children?

WIC helped us out alot getting the baby formula and other foods for our son. we were a young couple just starting out, with not much money. i don't know what we would have done without WIC? it's a great program, and really does help! Wic does give you parenting classes on your and your babies diet. i know i was always so careful to make sure i put the right amount of water to mix his formula. i also never used the powedered kind. never liked it. and WIC gives you the choice between powder and liquid canned formula that you mix with water. i think this is better?
glad the baby is fine now. [Edited 12/4/08 22:31pm]

But assembling the ingredients to make homemade formula wouldn't be any less expensive than the prepared stuff (though it would be a lot healthier). And the parent(s) would have to devote a lot of time and effort to making sure it was made consistently and well. Unfortunately, parents like this mother don't have the resources (on any level) to go that route. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
