I got quoted $600 for 10 sessions. That is the "introductory" price. Is that a good deal? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Great news! I have found that a personal trainer gets you better and faster results, by far.
Here is what I look for in a personal trainer: 1. Do they ask questions? Everyone's goals are different, and some goals might not be that obvious, so a good trainer should be interested in what you want to accomplish. 2. Are they licensed? And, do they train people for a living? If they aren't licensed, be careful. Because that means they probably don't do this for a living, and could very well be gone tomorrow. 3. Are they affiliated with a gym? A reputable trainer will be, and the gym gets a cut of the money you pay. If a trainer isn't affiliated with a gym, you might get thrown out (or the trainer might). If you can't bring your trainer to your gym, that defeats the purpose. 4. Do you know other people they train, or can they provide references? It's best if you know someone else they train, because they can tell you things like, is the trainer always on time? Does the trainer routinely cancel appointments? Does the trainer pay attention to you during the workout, or are they talking to someone else on your dime? 5. Most importantly, do you like the trainer as a person? If you don't, you won't like working out with them. Good luck!

This is the guy I'm interested in hiring:
I love that he is not bulked up but thin and tight. Maybe less ripped for me but that is more I think what I'm going for I'm finally maturing and gained 15 pounds from my high school weight which doesn't sound like much considering I am 135 but I am not filling out exactly. The weight is not evenly distributed as if I was getting thicker and solid. Tht isn't what's happening. I have little handle things and baby pecs but only because of the weight gain not because I actually have pecs 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

It depends on the trainer. Most trainers in my area run about $500 to $600 for about 10 or so sessions. I have seen some trainers charge $25 per session, some $100 per session. it just depends on if the trainer if hard up for cash. Also, it depends on the gym they are working out of.
From my understanding, most gyms charge the trainer by the number of people they train there. If they work for a major chain, they usually work on salary and get paid so much per client. Before you see a trainer, I would ask myself what type of results do I want to achieve. Are you overweight and want to get started? Are you trying to gain weight? Who, to you, has a great body and why? Once you answer those questions to yourself, then seek a trainer that can help you attain your own personal goals. I know some people that are trainers that are total a-holes. They treat their clients like sh!t, then expect payment. On the other hand, there are some that are truly concerned about the clients results. I would avoid major chain gyms if you can. A good source to locate a trainer is definitely a community newspaper. That lets you know that the trainer is trying to attract clients and are interested in starting a business. Those are my suggestions. I have worked out with a trainer for 4 years. he is a really cool cat and he has helped me attain many of my own personal goals. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Any non-commissioned officer (such as myself) has conducted physical fitness training for our masses throughout our careers, so I'm a bit wary of that statement being used as a qualification... then again, maybe I should've asked which army first, huh? I read it as 'HITTING a personal trainer', but I am glad a certain person is here and turned it into 'HITTING ON a personal trainer' in just 12 replies.

One thing I'd look for in a trainer is a body type similar to mine. I want someone who battles the same issues I do and who is successful at it. For the same reason, I'd always pick a same-sex trainer.
