Ugh. . . procrastination! I am such a fucking CHILD in some ways. I've never learned self-discipline. I've never learned to stop procrastinating. I've been able to get by so far by being smart/quick and good at cranking shit out at the last minute. But it's starting to bite me in the ass pretty hard.
Getting back on the org has not been helping my grades. I think I need to stop using the internets at home. Which means mostly being away from the org again. But before I go, if any of y'all have an genius ideas or personal experiences about how you learned to stop procrastinating, I'd love to learn from you. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

And yes, I'm procrastinating over leaving. Shut up. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

I think my feelings on this topic can best be expressed by this quotation: "Hard work has a future payoff. Laziness pays off now!" But seriously, folks... I would recommend setting a time when you will do nothing but schoolwork (e.g. 6pm - 8pm) and adhere strictly to this schedule every day. Perhaps reward yourself with something afterwards (dinner? TV? orging? ). I personally find that routine is the key to discipline.

Try not to think about it in such stark terms...instead of procrastination, come to think of it as "biding your time"....

Why am I asking a bunch of BBS addicts about avoiding procrastination? "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

Actually, that's the way I am too, putting off things, sometimes for years. But recently I've decided to just allow myself a moderate amount of time on the computer, and the rest of my time I'm trying to fill with things I need/ have been needing to do and concentrating to the tasks at hand. This is one of the things I've been wanting to change about myself and feel that now is the time to step back and make use of the free time I have to better things that I do have control over, and not worry about the things I can't control, they have a way of working things out in the best possible way that will be better for them. . [Edited 12/3/08 10:27am] One of the things I've neglected for years is myself, and know that I've had to work on and resolve things within myself from the past, but let it pile up as they have such as my mental and physical health. Now I'm detoxing, I see things from a fresher perspective, with sober eyes, that is what my self or soul has been yelling at me for attention now for years. I've finally answered that call, but I think I was dreading facing the things I would have to see about myself, that those are the things that I don't like from other people, and yet here they were in myself. Now that I've faced myself, it's not as scary as I thought it would be, but boy do I feel like a hypocrite.

...works for me.... [Edited 12/3/08 10:03am] yeah that's it, pace yourself...an old manager of mine used to tell me all the time..'i've watched how you work, and you time everything to take a certain amount of time...just enough time to get everything done you're supposed to do.. and nothing extra...you pace yourself to work like that every day..' and i continued to do so... that backfires sometimes too.. 'why y'all trying to say goodbye? I didn't go anywhere, I'm right here, im all around you,always..'

I'm a terrible procrastinator too. I put things off until the last minute, then bust my butt, trying to get them done. I don't do this at my job, but when it comes to things in my personal life, I'm very bad with procrastinating. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I'm pretty bad at it too, but it depends on what it is. I'm so on top of some things, & others I let slide for YEARS

I'm guilty of procrastination myself the last few years.
I come to the org to get away from stuff that I need to do. Trouble is, it's still there looking at me when I log off.

my theory is to not think about what I need to do unless I intend to do it. So I'll be sitting there and orging or something, and I've visualise the task I'm about to do, and if I can break it down into visualising just the start of it, like opening a new blank document, for example, I find myself actually doing it and hey! I'm away!

timetable your day, there is a time for working and a time for playing.
i know what time i have to wake up, what time i have to eat, what i have to eat, when i have to walk my dog, go out etc etc, everyday. othewise i wouldn't get jack shit done. i also have days off where i can do what i feel like, but if you are working towards something, discipline, and sticking to your timetable, well it works for me. are you ready for submission
