Migraines? WTF!

In the last week, this has happened three times: I get a throbbing headache on one side of my head, then I start feeling nauseated. Twice I threw up, and this morning at work when it happened again I just stuck my finger down my throat just so I would puke and get rid of the nausea.

Sharp noises are making me miserable, and I still have the nausea.

Do migraines just strike in the middle of your life, even when you've never suffered from them before?

What the FUCK? NOT COOL!

I used to get migraines all the time. At one point when I had a very stressful job I had one for 14 days straight. I was constantly throwing up. Sometimes I can't open my eyes and it hurts to sit up or lie down...I just sit in my bed trying not to move at all and hoping to fall asleep.

I've heard that many migraines are actually sinus headaches. Try taking something for sinuses, you may be pleasantly surprised. You could also have food allergies. Chocolate and alcohol mad will definitely trigger a migraine.

Hope you feel better! hug

I had a terrible time with migraines headache
... I was taking codeine by the handful, had to sleep sitting up...etc... finally, my doctor gave me hydrcortisone shots directly into my head with this big ass needle ...after 3 treatments I haven't had any problems at all and it's been a couple of years now... wink

Mine come and go in phases

they started when I was 8 -ish

sometimes I have one a week
sometimes once a month and sometimes once every 3 months or so

they can come on at any point in life
food and drink triggers are huge for some
hormones are linked often

I have tried almost ever prescription there is - they make me feel worse then the feeling of my head imploding so I steer clear now of them

some meds work great for some folks

I say it SUCKS that you are getting them hug

I have heard the same thing about migraines being connected to sinuses. I used to get them from bc pills and severe sinus infections.
I hope you get to the bottom of the cause and get rid of them soon.

My daughter has suffered with migranes for years. sad You need to start keeping track of things that might trigger them. My daughter found that when she ate peanuts they would come, or if it was that "time".

I do hope you get to feeling better. hug

Thanks, guys. Migraines seem to target sexy people. hmmm There's a study in there somewhere.

I'm not sure migraines are what I'm experiencing, but when I looked up the symptoms it seems to fit. I'll see the doctor if it continues, but I just needed to vent about it today. A headache that makes me puke and need to lie down in the middle of the day is some BULLSHIT!!! mad

Mine come and go in phases also. I started having them at 10yrs and at times they go away for years only to return with a vengeance.

Mine always start with the "halo" where my peripheral vision goes away...then the nausea and blinding headache on one side of my head. Nothing helped except lying down in a room with no light or sound and riding it out.

My migraines returned about 3 years ago. I have discovered that if I take some extra strength excedrin as soon as the halo appears it makes a big difference. If I let it get past that stage, I'm nearly incapacitated for the whole day.

Chocolate doesn't affect me but anxiety seems to trigger most of mine.
I stay away from red wine...and I keep a bottle of excedrin nearby at all times.

I think this is the case for me. I get these headaches that won't seem to go away, and I begin to think they're migranes, but they always happen with weather changes--like when it gets windy & dry. I feel like it's a combination of sinuses and dehydration. Plus I never really got nauseous, maybe just slightly. This pounding behind one eye or the other.

I got one of those vaporizers that you stick your face into, and the steam clears you out a little. Seems to help. Plus sleep & water.

I try to avoid painkillers & decongestants, but when your head hurts it's tempting to shoot smack.

I don't know if migraines can begin in midlife but for me I can tell if it's a migraine or not by the loss of my peripheral vision and the nausea.

Hope you're better soon.

I can hold out with other ailments but for migraine or toothache I would pretty much do anything to get rid of the pain! lol

Very similar symptoms.
They only happen on very rare occasions these days.

When I was about 16 or 17 was when they were at their worst.
(While doing 3yrs of Jr. HS in 2 years and then a special accelerated HS in NYC)
So stress would've definitely been the culprit.

There might also be a genetic connection as my Mom used to get them also.

When they were at their worse I had a script for Fiorinal.
If you took them as soon as you noticed the first symptoms you could avoid the nausea and all that followed.

Excedrin Migraine...

...is my drug of choice these days. headache

You have to be careful with exedrin migraine....I was taking it and my body became addicted! eek I would have a headache if I didn't take it because there is so much caffeine in those pills. I had to ween off and eventually it got better.

I haven't tried the excedrin migraine. These days I get relief with only 1 extra strength excedrin if I catch the headache in the early stage.

I've had horrible headaches and felt sick to my stomach all week. It's because of my sinuses. They've been draining into my stomach which makes me throw up or come pretty close to it. I've been taking Dayquil/Nyquil sinus tabs but I think I'm immune to them now. I've been getting lots of rest which seems to help the most. The worst part of the headaches are one side of my head hurts and then the next day the other side does.

Whoa. eek eek eek

Luckily I don't have to take them that often.
If the headaches suddenly became as regular as they did back in the day, i'd go to the doctor and have something prescribed.

They are very nice and all, but when they come to stay it exhausts me - I'm already looking after 4 people, 2 more for a week and I reach breaking point dead Last Christmas dinner I ended up in bed with the worst migraine I've ever had.

My mom takes regular excedrin almost every day. Only about half a pill, but she's obviously addicted. Says she gets a headache without one. I don't think it's good to take that stuff all the time. But you can't tell your mother anything that they'll listen to.

I have been told that for many reasons, family history of blood clotting-aneurysm, past history of migraines, blurred vision-floaters, depression.
I have switched pills so many times, seems that the newest low dose ones do ok. I recently stopped taking it again and my breasts are so tender. Damn hormones!
