I feel so helpless I'm a Citigroup employee and I'm sure you all have heard of the trouble the company is having.. I went on vacation for 2 weeks in Nov and during that time it was announced that Citi was laying off 54,000 people and the last day of my vacation the whole damn company almost collapsed.. I'm grateful to still have a job but I don't think I can stand to see them walk another one of my colleagues out the door... 2 of my good friends just lost their jobs in the last 4 hours  | |

I am in the Financial industry as well, so I know your woes. We are going through a merger now and we are all bracing to see how it shakes out.

I work in a law office, and you would not believe the amount of people who have been laid off lately.
I have been here 22 years, so I pray I will be spared. But it is always so sad to walk by an empty office where your best coffee buddy use to be.  | |

just got out of a meeting with my mgr who basically told us that as of now there is no plan for Rif's in our group (reduction in force)
but as we were leaving he asked me to take a walk with him because there are 3 in my group including my mgr and myself who will be affected by the changed in the separation package as of January 15th 2009... right now I can get 52 weeks of pay and additional 6 mos but as of January 15th the additional 6 mos will not be offered... He also indicated that we haven't been offered the chance to take the package if we wanted it anyway, he just wanted to know if asked will I be willing to take a package and save someone else job... I said hell no and he laughed because he said he's not volunteering either... | |

| Sucks bad.
But you actually have a great separation package. I don't know anyone that gets a year much less a year and a half pay. So at least if the worse happens you'll have a safety net. How long have you been there? | |

it sux being layed off. think positive and maybe u could help them in some way ( maybe a new contact to a new job) if u want thus u won't feel so helpless.
