Thieves Steal Charity Christmas Trees

So many charities use angel trees these days.

Pluck an angel, buy the requested gift and know that someone in need got some unexpected holiday cheer.
Those angels are the hopes and dreams of children who often do without, but a local charity is scrambling to make dreams come true after an angel tree was stolen.
Adopt a Child or Two is one of many local groups looking out for kids in need.

"I think my heart was broken," charity organizer Mary Beth Bruss said.

One of the group’s angel trees was stolen from the lobby of the Sorrento Post Office.

"I think everyone felt like someone took part of the holiday season away from us," Bruss said.

"Every year I pull one (angel) off. Not like we have a ton of money, but we can help," customer Susan McKinney said.

The tree was up before it was taken -- angels and all. They don't know who pulled angels or how many went off with the thieves.

"Some of our people will go out and shop for those whose angels are not returned. No child will go without a gift," Bruss said.

"Kids are important. I drive a school bus, so I know how important kids are," McKinney said.

Cameras aren't allowed in the post office, but the tree has been replaced and more angels are on it.

"Put them (the angels) back in the barrel. That will help us out a great deal, and save us a lot of time," Bruss said.
