A message from Pastor Dan of MCC San Diego Dear Friends,
Let us all pause for a moment in our busy day to remember and reflect on World AIDS Day. Perhaps some of you are not aware that this observance actually originated at MCC San Diego under the leadership our Pastor Emeritus Rev. David Farrell, with the first International Prayer Vigil for AIDS in 1986. Since that time untold numbers have died and millions have been infected around the world, despite incredible medical advances. We lift up in prayer to a loving, caring God all those who have been lost to HIV / AIDS and those who have been left behind in grief; all who are suffering around the globe; the doctors, researchers and other medical professionals; the friends, loved ones and caregivers who have given so unselfishly from their heart and still do so. Virtually everyone in our community has been touched in some way by AIDS. We have come from a time of almost constant anguish and loss to one of better health and optimism, from fear and widespread discrimination to greater understanding and love. Yet, we are not at the end of the road. May we never forget each and every unique person who is now with our Creator and never think that the battle has been won until everyone today is well, cured, healed and safe. Rev. Troy Perry repeatedly says that, “Our God is greater than AIDS,” and we truly believe that. May World AIDS Day not only be a day of heartfelt remembrance but a time of looking ahead to that brighter day that we claim in Christ’s holy name. Love and blessings, Pastor Dan | |
