Ace said: Yes, that was my first thought, as well: stroke. If it is, I can tell you that a man I know suffered one a year or two ago and you would never know it now; recovery is a possibility.
I hope everything turns out okay, my bro (and I mean that in the spirit Howard intended it, not in the way Baby Gorilla interpreted it).:tryingtoliftyourspirits: Your friend, Ace My first thought was a small stroke but then diabetes can do strange things i.e. confusion etc. My heartfelt prayers are with you and I send my best wishes to your family xx "I may not agree with what you say but I'll fight for your right to say it"

Have they already determined what it is? It sounds like a stroke.
The first 24 hours are important, if he's acting better today he has a good chance on recovery. My mother in law has had plenty of (heavy) strokes during the past 10 years or so and she is still holding strong, so keep faith, it doesn't have to be bad. I'm sending for all of your family

roodboi said: but I need your prayers, thoughts, vibes or whatever...my dad has been admitted to the hospital this evening...we're not sure exactly whats wrong but his mental awareness suddenly changed today...
my mom called me just before lunch and told me that he was acting odd and that he was not remembering things...his best friend died two years ago....my mom mentioned it to him today and my dad didn't believe his friend was dead...he thought my mom was lying to him....things kinda went downhill from there... my dad is diabetic so I thought maybe it had something to do with his sugar levels, so, as planned, we all met up at my mother in laws for thanksgiving dinner...although he said he felt fine, I could tell something was wrong...I asked if he wanted to go to the hospital, he said no... we ate and were sitting around the table talking when suddenly he passed out in his chair...I shook him and he revived immediately....we took him straight to the emergency room...his his awareness got even worse while there...it was really odd the things he could remember and the things he couldn't...the CT scan showed signs of some past pin strokes... anyway, now he is in the hospital in Savannah, Georgia...my mom is there with him...it's obviously nothing life threatening but I'm just worried if his current mental state is temporary or not...time will tell.... I wish I was there with them but he wanted me to stay and watch over his business while he's admitted....I feel guilty about not being there but this place is very important to him, so I'm doing as he asked... thanks for taking time to read this, y'all... praying for you and your family dear

first and foremost, I'd like to think everyone for the well wishes and prayers...you have absolutely no idea how much it means to know that I frequent a message board with so many caring people...a special thanks to luv4u for making this a sticky...
my dad is going to be released from the hospital this afternoon...he is doing well and is fully cognizant...the possibilty of this being stroke related has been ruled out... however, something very disturbing was discovered...barbituates were found in his urinalysis...understand, my dad is one of the most straight laced people on the planet...he's never even smoked a cigarette or cigar, so for there to be any drug in his system, other than those prescribed to him, came as quite a shock... basically the doctor said a combination of factors; his age, his diabetes and his daily medication, along with the barbituates in his system, caused a state of "temporary amnesia"...luckily-thankfully all that seems to have passed and the only things he cannot remember are the events of thanksgiving day.... now the question remains of how the barbituates got into his system....I'm not sure we're ever gonna know the answer... again, thanks everyone for your kind words...they are truly appreciated...
