Anybody up cooking? I think I messed up my collard greens. For some reason they taste funny to me. I can't put my finger on what the problem is but I just don't like them. And it's too early to start drinking.

My mom's cooking as usual this year. I know she has started by now. She's picking me up in a couple of hours and I'll help with the rest. |

I did my baking last night. Now I'm doing the main meal. 3 questions... Are you using fresh greens? What did you use to clean them? What did you season them with??? Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I just used water to clean them like I do all my vegetables. I guess it may be because I actually prefer kale over collards. It may just be me because I don't usually cook collard greens. Something is missing, though. I don't have that smokey flavor I get when I cook kale. I used the same smoked turkey necks so, where's the dang smoke?

Put the turkey in the oven at 6am....
Got the mashed potatoes/chives/bacon/sour cream/cream of mushroom/butter combo done... working on the mac n cheese/bacon now... then will get going on the rice/cream of mushroom/almond/shrimp thingie... Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

You first thanksgiving. awwww... You guys must be having a ball. My mom is on her way to pick me up and she just called for exact directions from my brother's house as she's never come from that way and she told me she has my niece and nephew with her. My niece Caitlin (who is 6) said she wanted to ride with so she'd be "the first one to see Carrie!" |

I'm making the green bean casserole to take to my mom's house. It's the Campbell's recipe. I've never put soy sauce in my casserole before. I hope it's good. Shake it til ya make it

as usual, we're gonna have way too much food....just more to put in the freezer, I guess...

I am supposed to be asleep right now. Seriously. I've been up since 8 last night. Dad is BBQ-ing some turkey wings and cornish hens. I'm in charge of mac and cheese, veggies, and the bread and canned purple stuff. (I know that crap can't possibly be cranberry sauce.. ) I WAS gonna have some nice early morning sauce, but, meh....it is a little too early to be dipping into the Schnapp's.

Smoked turkey wing or neck is fine...a tablespoon or two of vinegar and a tsp of sugar brings out the flavor nicely. Then just add your other seasonings to taste. Happy Thanksgiving! OMG I just sent my sons on a quest in search of cranberry sauce 'cause I forgot to buy it...twice. I told them if they come back without it they don't eat! I know it's tacky but it's a must have for me...I love the way it comes out shaped like the can. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I'm making stuffing with shrimp and collards...and a turnip soufflé. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

That sounds yummy! I'm all done! I was invited to my god-sisters place as well as some friends but since I wanted to stay home I'm doing all the cooking. My sons always want the traditional meal so if I deviate with anything fancy I'd be in trouble, I made turkey, a small ham, stuffing, mac & cheese, cornbread, green beans, chocolate cake, sweet potato pie and apple pie. After we eat I'm gonna chill with a glass of Amerula and take me a nap. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Kale has a better, more delicate flavor than collards, I think, which is why you usually cook collards for umpteen hours to get rid of that nasty flavor they have when raw. It might be that. Try cooking them on low heat for a while longer? The daughters baked the cornbread for the stuffing this morning, Chris made his spinach artichoke dip, baked mac and cheese is halfway done, and I'll start the kale and yams soon. Turkey is already cooked. The Normal Whores Club

My Mom does the Thanksgiving cooking...
I'm on the Board of a Mentoring Program; we took the kids to a shelter to feed homeless families. We worked hard, but it was a truly humbling experience! I just got home a little while ago... Mom's food is next! "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"
