DID U GO TO

Private or public school...Taylor is due to start high school next year and I have her enrolled in the local state school where is has been accepted into the excellence of Arts and excellence of dance programs....
there are however 2000 kids at the school ...and I noticed some of the students (in particular final year males) have tattoos and look like men...plus the school is a little rough around the edges
So I was sort of ok with that..however lately Taylor has called into the local shop before dancing (which is across the road from the school) ...on the first occassion some girl a few years older in uniform looked her up and down and then asked her if she had had sex yet (Taylor is in her last year of primary) ...she felt quite intimidated and said no and rushed out.
Then the next time she went in there (a few weeks later) two boys were behind her talking and she over heard them say "We are going to rape that bitch" (they weren't talking to her or about her)

Now I went to state school and really had no problems ..but the way things are looking today sad ..I have been really stressing over this....

I have an appointment and have put in an application for her to go to private school (which is $3500 a year) although Im not sure they have all the programs that the state schools have.
I also don't want her to have any snob factor ....
My mum has sat me down and told me she wants both Taylor and Tyryn to go to this private school and that if we can't afford it then she is going to pay....
What would u do? I don't want to make any mistakes here sad

I went to public school from K-12. The area in which I live has one of the best districts in New York state though. The private schools actually have much more problems around here, especially when it comes to behavior. shake

4 years of private school and 8 years of public school. I very much preferred the public school. And apart from 2 weeks when I started school at six that I spent in a different school I spent all 12 years in schools that had only girls falloff.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

A school can be fabulous or awful whether public or private. My elementary and Jr high schools were amazing academically and for the arts, my high school was atrocious, all were public schools. And you can have just as many (or way more) discipline problems in private schools as public. Teenagers are teenagers, no matter how much money their parents have.
You're going to need to do some detective work to find the best school.

I wish you luck. hug

I went to public school and turned out just fine but times where different then. Now when it was time for my niece to go to school I sent her to private schools formative years K-6 to lay the right foundation I for her. When she reached junior high she chose to continue going to private school but when she moved to another state to live with her dad, he put her in public school. When it came time for high school she applied and got herself into a type of magnet/prep (public) school and did great.

I don't think it matters whether it's public or private. Kids are kids regardless of where they are.

I went to public school...DPS, for all you detroiters...and I turned out just fine biggrin My son is in public school, but in the suburbs cool

I had a wonderful experience w/ Catholic schools. It was academically rigorous and we had to have theology every year with community service requirements to graduate. I look back on those years very fondly.

There is a great school of the Arts in brisbane (dance, art, drama, music etc) but they can't start there until year 10 (It won't be so easy getting her there eithier..but we have a couple of years to figure that out) ...Im pretty sure all the private schools have pretty good art programs ..but not so much dance (mind u she does enough of that outside of school right now)

At boarding school I formed my character, learned some discipline and was taught to survive.
Also, I terrorized the hell out of new kids, had my first sexual experiences with girls.
