2012 - The Movie

The trailer looked cool until I saw who was directing...Roland Emmerich :vomit:I think this is going to be akin to The Day After Tomorrow.

Apparently the movie is based on what is considered to be the end of the world on Dec 21, 2012, as that is when the Myan calendar ends.

If the Earth's axis does get pulled from it's current position, there is NOT much that can be done. A select few will fly off a various space stations while the rest will be left up 2 their own devices.

He's ok. You sorta have to unplug your brain when you watch his movies though. To prepare my brain for his movies, I usually do a Marathon of The Hills followed by a few hours of the Simple Life.

I thought this was gonna be for one of those Arthur C. Clarke books. Wasn't there another book after 2010? I would look it up on Google, but unfortunately I am too lazy. But not too lazy to YouTube the Space:1999 theme, which is what this thread has inspired me to do.

Wait, so what's this movie about? I guess I have to SCROLL UP AND READ now. rolleyes

I know it's almost like a long Imago thread. I just skip the intro and get to the comments.

I thought we were supposed to die in 1999 or was it 2000?
This 2012 thing freaks me out though as my baby will only be four and starting school neutral

do people really believe all these people predicted the exact year and date? and why does the mayan calender end on dec 21th 2012?
It's very easy for someone to come along and 'translate' the bible and Nostradamus and make up their own interpretations of what they read to fit whatever disaster has happened and will happen, did Nostradamus predict Hitler and WWII and 9/11..
"Nostradamus couched his "prophetic" verses in language so obscure that the words can be, and have been, interpreted to mean almost anything. What's more, the interpreting is always done after the fact, with the benefit of hindsight, and with the concerted aim of proving the relevance of a given passage to an actual event"

is this all bullcrap? it's like daja vu

all this was meant to happen in the year 2000

The second coming of Jesus Christ, when he returns to earth after almost two millennia.
The war of Armageddon -- a massive battle in Israel.
The arrival on earth of the Antichrist, an evil political, military leader.
The Tribulation, a seven year interval of great suffering and death.
The Rapture, when Christians who have been born again -- both living and dead -- will rise into the sky towards Jesus.
Some horrendous natural disaster.
etc.

i'm sure if you polled every person on earth who thought the world was coming to an end and asked them what exact day it's going to happen, we'd have every day on the calendar for at least the next 100 years filled with at least one armageddon a day. which, you know, kinda reminds me of a typical week at my job, but that's another thread...

I was never afraid of the world will end on such a date crap before but now I have this little person to care for and we are suppposed to only have four years left to live ffs! it is a bit scary

yeah, but everyone always says that and they always say they're the authority on the matter and it never happens. you should just treat every day with your little person like it could be the last, then you'll always be safe and you'll have less regret. smile

they used Wendy Carlos's music composed for "The Shining" (but only used for a teaser trailer in 1979) for that trailer.

way before. the bible was created.

however there may be something that is coming up in 2012 more so than the 2000 thing because no one knows when Christ was born or died.

the earth crosses the celestial equator for the first time in 24000 years on Dec 21 2012, the day the long count of the maya calendar ends.

I remember when I was in 8th grade, some fringe group predicted that the world was going to end. One teacher even gave the class a minute to pray. Of course nothing happened because ht world isn't just going to end on some random day that some people 2500 years ago arbitrarily picked.

Y2K was more believable. But if I'm wrong, I'll gladly admit it on here. wink

Y'know, if the world does end soon,
and my last moments are filled with the hellish realization that I wasted a good-sized proportion of the last years of my life here on this site,
then I blame you fuckers.

A pole shift will occur. That is a MAJOR occurance. This could trigger every natural disaster that Mother nature can muster.....all at once.
