Canada

So, I've been offered a job in Canada, it's pretty much work from home so I need to do a little research in to locations. What area has least snow? I hate snow.
Klopf, klopf!

Right. But you do realise that just living anywhere in Canada won't necessarily put you close to Erin... I hope.

Toronto is great. I don't know about the snow levels though. Erin lives in Ottawa and I believe she said it's about 4 hours to the northeast.

There are some other orgers who live there. Emm and luv4u are Canadians. Oh, SammiJ too, but I haven't seen her around much lately.

I'm just south of the border in NY State.
Toronto isn't too bad for weather but they do get some snow. Usually the snow is in bands that are north of Toronto in the Barrie area and south where I am.
Toronto is a beautiful city.

I'm not sure but maybe Vancouver has less snow.

You need to clarify BC for the Americans. wink

It means British Columbia.

Canada snowfall map:
http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/...d/snowfall

The coasts and the Canadian Rockies get the most snowfall, but the midwestern prairies are so flat (I'm told) that the comparatively lesser snow is blown around something fierce by the winds there!

I'm in Toronto, and I rather enjoy the east coast scene. But if you're looking for significantly less snowfall and a more picturesque natural landscape, you may prefer Vancouver. Vancouver's hilly outlying areas get hit with snow (perfect if you ski) while the city proper actually largely escapes it... and smaller, nearby Victoria, B.C., is even more temperate.

If you want to live in a city and you hate snow, your best bet is probably Vancouver.

That said, Vancouver is full of damn, dirty hippies. shake

I should note that a friend of mine moved from Toronto to Vancouver, for school. She haaaated it and couldn't wait to move back.

I'm told that, in contrast to the city's natural beauty, there are a lot of aggressive beggars, heroin addicts and prostitutes on the streets. Apparently, there is little nightlife, as well.

From a 'Toronto vs. Vancouver' thread on another board:

In general there is way more homelessness, drug use (like, scary drugs like heroin) and crime in Vancouver (there are obvious reasons like it's a port city so there are more drugs, also the temperate weather means you can be homeless here 365 days a year without dying of exposure or heat exhaustion like you would in T.O. or most other Canadian cities and more poverty and drugs = more crime) -- there are neighbourhoods I don't like to walk around in here, I never felt that in Toronto, and I also never saw needles on the sidewalk in Toronto. I'm mentioning it not necessarily to discourage you, there's a lot of things I like about Vancouver (Granville Island! Main Street! Stanley Park! the Pacific Ocean!) but it was a HUGE shock to me and my boyfriend when we moved out here from Toronto and it is part of the culture that you should be prepared for should you decide to move here.

Toronto is Canada's New York. Vancouver sounds like more of a Seattle.

Western Canada has the least snow. The further East you go the worse the weather is and the more dump of snow they get evillol

I like spring and fall and the latter part of summer.

Wherever you choose to go, make damn sure it isn't North Western Ontario.
It's like Deliverance minus a banjo string...and at least a foot of snow at all times during the winter months (which ends up being half a year)...

lol It's true, Some of my ex husband's family are up there. Nice scenery but nothing else there.

Montreal is nice but I was there in the summer, I guess it's pretty snowy in the winter.

I'm probably not the best judge- I love snow so the more the better for me.
biggrin

We didn't have very much snow until Christmas and then we were socked with it.
The snow bands off the lakes are pretty predictable but when they shift it can be bad.

I agree with Ace, Toronto is like New York, only much cleaner.
